OK guys here we go! I posted a forum asking if anyone attempted on removing a roof and many of you gave helpful advice. At first I was planning on cutting the pillars on my car but I found a way to just swap out the skin. Tonight was my first night working on getting the skin out of the donor roof that I bought for $100. So far it is going well... I removed all the lead and body filler to locate all the seems. And I started drilling out the spot welds with a drill bit made specifically for removing spot welds. There is going to be a lot of drilling but so far its coming out well. My dads also getting into it and he has been helping me out. Let me know what you think! Thanks!!!!

Doing good. Go slow. Measure a lot. Leave one either the car or the new roof long and trim a little at a time. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure ALL of the lead is gone. GONE! Plastic filler and paint will not stick to it. Grind a little if you have to. You can use acid etching primer (wash primer) to coat it first and then it will hold primer and filler but I'd just make it go away.

So yesterday I picked up a sweet spot welder for $50. Its a 220 volt and works great. And today I went to harbor freight and picked up 3 spot weld drill bits because the one I was uses snapped some teeth. So far they seem to work out well. Hopefully I can get the skin off by Sunday!

I've been working on my 67 for 9 years. I can understand frustrating. Hopefully I'll get to drive it this spring. The learning and the creating is a big part of the fun. That, and being able to say you did it, rather than you wrote a check for it.

:nice:

That looks like a .357 Sig round. About the only agency I know of that issues those are the Air Marshalls. Of course, it most likely came from a citizen owner. A lot less powerful round then the .357 Magnum, but it is a quick little round.

Off topic.....I know.
