I am curious what everyone's opinion is for tires on a 2011 Shelby GT500 that has the SVT Package. Currently the tires are Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G: 2, which is an extreme performance summer tire and Asymmetric/Directional tire.

Current tire size is Front Tires P265/40ZR19, Rear Tires P285/35ZR20

I was looking at some Michelin Pilot Super Sport max performance tire. A few people have told me to go with the Michelin tires even though they are more expensive than the Goodyear because the Michelin tires have better grip/handling, quieter, launch is superb, better in the rain.

The only con that people have told me was the price of the Michelin tires.

I live in Tennessee so the weather changes, could rain one minute and be cold or hot the next. Not much snow in Tennessee but that comes and goes as well.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. I really want everyone's opinion.

Are you happy with the Goodyear? Have you had the car since new, or just getting started with it?

I've only got 3k on the Goodyears on my 13, and I'm not impressed. I've never driven them on warm pavement (hasn't been above 60 since I bought the car), but I have a terrible time getting them to hook up. I'm either going with the Michelin, which everyone seems to rave about, or possibly Nitto Invos, which have a few negative reviews, but are significantly cheaper.

If you like the GYs, you'll be the first person I've met who does...

Not really happy with the Goodyear tires but the tires were not a show stopper in buying the GT500. Just getting started with it since I purchased the car on Friday December 22, 2012.

There's only 1800 miles total on the Shelby. It's been cold and rainy here so there's not much warm pavement until late March or April. I actually have heard nothing but praise on the Michelin which I am going to order through tirerack or wherever I can find the best deal. Love the GT500 but the cars should be a lot better than what came on the car, you pay a hefty price for a Shelby and get crappy tires.

Just saw your other post about your Christmas present, so now I understand. You're just getting to experience the GYs. If I were in your situation I'd have new Michelin on before the weekend was over. You can step up to the 295 rear without any problem, to get even more bite. I haven't heard a single complaint yet about them. I'm just holding off until spring rolls around-GYs seem to do ok for storage in the garage! :D

I was kind of curious about the Michelins because when I purchased the Shelby, I came home and went to tirerack and wanted to see how much a set of tires would be, then noticed in the OEM size, with 19 on front 20 on rear, that Michelin and Goodyear are about the only ones unless I go up or down a size. I've been reading a lot more up on the Goodyears and seems everyone is not happy with them unless they live in Hawaii or other warm climate areas yet far more people seem to be pleased with the Michelin even as far up north as Maine and Michigan.
