91 hatch has a coupe vin

hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. so the vin on my 91 hatcback is a P41E which is for a coupe correct? from what i understand the hatchback should be P41F. I ran the vin and it comes out to be a 91 white hatch with 5.0 and 5 speed which is correct, another thing is the black strip around the car is black. from what i understand after 91 they were all colored so 90 would have been the last year.

my car also has headrests that are on saleens and early gt, which i know they could have been swapped but they look original, and lastly im not sure when they stopped but i have a pull down light (in between the visors) again i think they stopped pre 90 but im not sure. Does anyone know anything about these vins? i cant find another white with black strip 91 lx any help on figuring this out is greatly appreciated thanks

no black strip is factory, its all black. i have only seen 1 other hatch with the same colors but not sure what year it was. all the others i have found have been coupes. I have checked all the vin tags and they all match so im confused, maybe ford made a mistake?

To be clear, the VIN digits break down as follows... (From mustanggt.org)

I'm using my 91 GT VIN as an example:

1facp
Digits 1-5: USA, Ford Passenger Car, Active Seatbelts

42
Digits 6-7: 3-door Hatchback (GT Series)

*** 41 is an LX Hatchback. My 93 LX hatch has 41 in the VIN

E
Digit 8: V8, 5.0 Liter, 302 (EFI) Engine

Digit 9: VIN internal check digit (Ford uses this, it could be anything 1-9 as far as I can tell)

M
Digit 10: 1991 model year

F
Digit 11: Dearborn Assembly Plant

Last 6 is the consecutive build number.

EDIT: I misread something. Anyway, it is fine, E points to the fact that it is a 5.0L car. The only other letter available in 1991 is M for the 2.3L. 1993 Cobra's have D in their VIN. Four eye cars had more engine options and probably several more/different engine codes.

The map light is on my 1991 GT for sure. I thought it maybe went away in 92 or 93, but I don't remember.

All 1991 cars had the black moldings. It was only 1992 and 1993 that had body colored moldings unless the car has been repainted that way. I have had 2 1991 hatchbacks and both had the "dope scope" map light, My 1993 does not however. And yes the headrest I believe went to the smaller style in 1990.

I always thought 1991 stangs were easy to identify if factory stock, as they were the last year for black moldings, and first year for pony wheels.
