So I've been having a problem with my amp that just started last night. I'm not sure how you all are with these sorts of things, but if I've leaned anything about this forum, someone will come through. :nice:

So I have a 400w, dual channel amp powering 2 10" subs. They were installed about 2 months ago and I've never had a problem with them until last night.

Last night, I noticed that they weren't kicking on as I was leaving work. So I did some investigating. When I first turn the key "on" the amp powers up and the light comes on. Now, if the volume is turned down everything works as it should. When I turn the volume up, as the bass starts kick the amp will turn off. The fuse is/was not blown. I checked my ground to make sure it was grounding well. And before I get too far into this I wanted to see what you guys had to say.

You might be over heating your amp mine was doing that because of tge set of equalizers i had for my front components were shorting out bad so i took then out and havent had a problem hope this helps

Something is going into a protection mode is my first guess. How long can volume be turned up before things shut down? Are there any lights, gauges or anything else on amps or deck to help diagnose?

Double check that all wires are well connected. It could be a loose wire without enough connection for signal to travel through it as signal gets stronger.

castine917 There are only two lights. One inside the unit, that I can see through the top of the unit and the power light on the front. It can't be turned up very long. As I increase volume, I can see the power light start to dim/ flicker. And then it all goes out. Now, the light inside the amp is always on regardless of if the amp is on or not. I rechecked the wires. The ground is nice and tight, same with all the rest of the wires.

Went and tore it all apart. Cleaned up the wiring at the amp. Turns out one of the connections at the sub was a bit wonky. I read some where that a bad connection at the sub will turn put it into protect mode. Fixed that connection and it all works beautifully.
