C4 faster shift

Don't forget to get a new adjustable modulator, and upgrade the servo.
A shift kit is nice, but proper adjustment can go a long way.
Make sure the bands are adjusted too.
They can become out of spec over time.

Just look at the pan.
The C4 has a small squared off pan with roughly 12-14 bolts, while the C6 has a large pan with more than 4 straight sides and closer to 20 bolts.

Also, the C6 has a non-removeable bellhousing, while the C4 tranny is seperate from the bell (it unbolts).
If you have an 88 with a C4, it was not stock. I am not even sure a C6 was available in 88. Once the AOD came out, the C4 was gone pretty quick, then when the E40D came out, the C6 went away. I am pretty sure the E40D was out by 88.

'89 was first year of the E4OD

Every C4 I have ever had looked like what that chart calls a "C5".

Yeah I think this chart may be a little messed up. Because I thought the only difference with the C4 and C5 was internals (something with the planetaries?) and the dipstick tube set up. I'm sadly not as knowledgeable as I would like to be on these old Ford's. I know more about old GM transmissions than Ford's and I'm a Ford guy!

But the AOD/AODE/4R70W part is accurate. There's one single bolt hole that is changed in one corner of the pan. I've tried using an AOD pan gasket on a 4R, it didn't work out too good

Yeah, I noticed the rest were correct.
If memory serves, it's been a very long time since I have seen a chart like this (they used to hang on the wall at mom and pop parts stores), the first pan is actually a C3, and the second a C4/C5. I could be wrong though. Getting old sux. ;)

You could be correct! C4's and C5's were a "little" before my time. You're probably old enough to be my dad. Not saying you're OLD, it's just that I'm that young :p
