honestly, i know i could have made the on3 kit work just fine. i co-own a body shop but we have metal fab equipment as well. the only reason i didn't get the on3 was because i would have wanted to get a better turbo anyways, so after the price of the on3 kit plus a different turbo, i could just get the treadstone kit with a turbonetics turbo. what kind of numbers and/or times are you putting down my 85 gt? i see you have a moates quarterhorse, do you tune yourself? i've been thinking about grabbing a moates as well and doing my own tuning.

I have a convertible getting the roll bar installed this week...havent taken it yet due to it being a convertible and you cant go faster the 13.49...im sure im a little faster then that..lol..when it was a stock long block with a powerdyne 1st and only run i went 13.3 got told to slow down NO ROLL BAR..lol so i said if im going to need a roll bar im really going to need one...The shop that did my turbo install and motor work did the moates QH and tune...but im switching it going with a Mega squirt plug and play...the shop says way better then the QH..i didnt do it intially money was a little tight,so i am now...As far as numbers i made just shy of 500 rwhp thru an AOD it had more but its a stock block..so they backed it down with a very safe tune...[ a little rich] thats why i want the Mega squirt and re-tune...I also run the on3 turbo 70mm .68 A/R spools wicked fast and seems like a decent turbo...if it goes i will upgrade to a ball bearing type...but stay with the same size...car make awesome power...

Check the nut on the impeller and make sure it is not coming loose at all , on 3 are known for the nut to back off and blow the turbo up , like I said I like the kit just better turbo is needed IMO

I honestly think so. My old Conquest had a 2.6 4 banger with a 60-1 and it was putting down 300.

My word of advice after dealing with turbos, it's all in the tune and always check your oil and oil lines and stay on top of it. They can be real finicky.

The problem with a turbo and a stock block is that all you need to do is turn a knob in the car and bam...more boost. That's waaay too tempting. I'd be in block splitting territory so fast. I envy you if you have the discliping to keep the car in the 400rwhp range.

my buddys car ran 12 psi made 475 at the tire through a c4 , Ran great. Went best of 11.2x on 18 in saleens at 127 mph. They are FUN

People say they suck, because they suck.
I know people extremely versed in pretty much every phase of modifying mustangs. I've seen how on3 kit's fit in person (which is not good) and if somehow you overcome their fitment issues, you still have to worry about the turbo blowing itself to pieces. I know people that have been given estimates almost as high as the whole kit costs, just to fix it.

You get what you pay for most of the time.
A $2000 vortech is a much better purchase. Start the install on saturday and drive it to work on monday.

I'm not opposed to turbos, i just think it's one of those mods you either go all in on, or you don't do at all. Doing a cheap kit just so you can say you have a turbo IMO isn't worth the trouble.

The On3 "fit" argument always cracks me up, considering this is a hobby where 351 swaps, MOD MOTOR SWAPS, long tube headers, rolled fenders, removed quad shocks, piston notching, intake spacers, valve cover grinding, radiator bracket bending, and general BFH sheetmetal massaging is the norm. I understand that people expect anything that's called a "kit" to just sort of fall into place, but for the money you save buying a $1500 turbo kit, what's a few extra hours spent getting everything squared away?

Now, as far as the quality of the turbo itself, I can't say. It is what it is for $1500 I guess. I just think bi tching about install fitment is silly. My brain melts out of my ears every time I see one of those 12 page long threads on the Corral where some half-wit is crying about 1/4" misalignment between two pipes after making zero real effort to readjust anything.

It's not a terrible kit like you are saying , and your right people don't want to take the time Nik , my friends kit was great almost 2 years no issues , but the turbo was swapped for a master power before it went on and tial blow off and waste gate , only problem he ever had was the weld broke on the waste gate flange so he bought a Bigger wastegate and had the chassis guy tig it and he was back at it .

So you are comparing a bunch of minor fixes that any noob with a toolbox can do, to cutting, welding and realigning a turbo kit?

The point really is that you get what you pay for and the sensible thing is to just pay for something better. It's no different than the pro comp heads, you can buy them cheap then dump money in them to make them right or you can just buy twisted wedges or afr's, either way you are spending the same amount of money, except for in the end if you buy the better product, you have just that, a better product.
Ever see the price of stainless pipe? Not exactly the stuff to experiment with if you aren't a good welder (or have a welder at all).

People in the market for cheap turbo kit's are already on a budget, hence the fact that they bought on3 to begin with, adding more time and money to already slim wallet.

This is why i just like the idea of the vortech kit, you know it's going to be reliable, fit well and produce the power.
The on3 kit is nothing but a potential headache for the sake of being different.

Btw my "MOD MOTOR SWAP", required little to no fabrication and was not based on some unreasonable $1500 budget. Mainly it require reading diagrams and collecting the right parts for the job. About the only thing on it outside the realm of the average guy was welding on the heat exchanger, which i knew going into it, i never expected it to work as is.

Well money isnt an issue with me...i could have bought any turbo kit ANY....i wanted to give the under dog kit a chance why not...I have a stock bottom end anyways even this kit can split it...i figure when and if i do blow this motor up i build a Dart block and then maybe upgrade to a different turbo kit..Also boost is boost this kit will still propell my car into the 11's maybe 10's... My car is a vert and heavy so thats why i say maybe 10's ..AGAIN i will say this i drive this car daily for over a yr now it works great..Im not saying it wont have any issues or its perfect but AS of now its just fine.....
