Well. its been awhile since I've been on here things have been crazy lost my job at the factory and, have been scrapping by but fixing to sell one of my cars to throw the money at the stang and really get it going. some new things I got for her. are 70 coupe sport mirrors and all three wiring harness's with fuse box. got the mirrors for 80 and harness's for 40.

First on the list is I'm gonna strip it completely in the next couple of weeks. and start fixing the few rust holes it has. and putting something on the floor of the car not just bear metal. then a lil body work and prime it. at the same time I'm gonna go ahead and rebuild the 351W after I figure out what year it is. Not gonna bore it out or anything yet. But I figured its not to much more to get a master rebuild kit with flat top pistons then a friend is gonna port and polish the heads and intake. we're not sure on the year the engine is so Hopefully it has roller rockers and i can just cam it. if it isn't we're gonna ether find heads with em or get a roller rocker cam kit for it. and we're rebuilding a Holly 850 carb for her. got new windshield coming for it. after all the body and paint. and probably gonna have to get new brakes. I would love to switch it to disk brakes but I don't think money will allow. If anyone has some other things they think I should add to the list or cheaper ways of doing things or whatever Would LOVE the input this is my first Mustang build. not the first classic car. Me and my grandpa have always been building chevy's for as long as I can remember. But he's not a ford guy. and I love em. But have never really worked on one. :D thanks in advance for the help.

Is the engine you want to build out of the car? There is a part number on the block, that will help determine what it is. There isn't much difference at all in cost between a standard bore or an over bore kit from summit at all, it just depends on what your budget is.
Keep in mind that you will need to upgrade your transmission, rear diff and suspension, to utilize a super high performance engine.
I am in the middle of a 351W build myself, I'm at the point where I need to measure for push rods. I put a pair of trick flow heads on my block, with a retro fit roller cam.

I would recommend getting the block checked out first, if it needs to be bored and you don't do it now, you will be out the cost of new pistons and rings in short order. When I was younger I threw a 302 together with a re-ring kit (the bores looked good eye balling), started blowing by at about 2000 miles. Boils down to spend a little more now, or a lot more later.

Also, what do you plan on doing with the car? Unless you plan on mostly racing it, that 850 will probably be too big of a carb. My 351W (granted very mild but still fun build) is good with a 650.

well i looked at it today. and I'm thinking I'm gonna ride to the junk yard and pull a 351W out of a 95 F250. and already have roller rockers and just switch it to carb. and send it to a machine shop. to get bored and checked and all that. I'm now selling two cars. to fund this as I'm also probably gonna buy Aftermarket heads. thinking 66cc .... and also. I've already got a built c4 under it and a 9" rear end. all built by the last owner should be able to hold over 600HP to the wheels But i'm only shooting for 400 to 450. Just something that'll put all these newer muscle cars and tuners/ricers in they're place.

this is what she looks like now. Put new wheels on and washed her off. gonna strip the body and inside soon to get it sand blasted then prime and paint. and will hopefully get all that done soon.

I'd go with the 95 351W, more torque, and most of the 5.0 parts will work. Shouldn't be much of a problem getting the hp you're looking for. The only thing I'd recommend at this point is to take an honest look at what you will be doing with the car. A fun cruiser that will smoke the tires all over the place, and a drag race car are completely different builds. Mine is the cruiser, lots of torque, but built with gas mileage and dependability in mind. I learned long ago that driving on the freeway at 5000 rpm isn't a good time. But this is for you, and everything goes a lot smoother with a plan.

the plan is a high torque reliable car that can smoke pretty much anything that wants to give it ago. and..... FOUND out today. a friend of mine is willing to sell me a 460 bored 30 over flat top pistons roller rockers WITH a C6 tranny coming with it. its got a high torque cam in it made for a replacement on like a RV type thing. 5200 RPM cam. I can get it all for 2500.... tranny is also built...... SO what do you guys think??? 351 that i'd have to build up. or a 460 thats already built with a better tranny to boot. for probably around the same price it'd take to buy a newer 351 and rebuild bore and cam and all that. and the great thing about this is. the guy is the guy helping me do all the work on the car. so if i say i want it he'll hold onto it untill i can pay for it. Thanks to all you guys for the input It really helps me figure out what to do. I'm young and have a problem with wanting it done and as soon as possible.

as soon as i have 200 bucks I'm stripping it and throwing it on a body stand or whatever they're called. and taking it to another friends house who can sandblast it for me. then patching the few rust holes i have and whatever little amount of body work i gotta do. then paint. then i'm gonna shop around for possi track rear end. the one under is not. and that will not do.

The thing i really want is the C6 thats really sweet. has ratchet shifter and built. MMMMMMM and I wouldn't need aftermarket parts for the 460. its already built bored flattops cammed alum heads. roller rockers. aftermarket headers that will fit... the list goes on. Idk which way to go

A C6 is a heavy, horsepower sucking transmission. The 460 will be a very big, very torque producing engine. What are your plans for the car? Track car? Daily driver? Blend between the two? You should consider final drive ratio and transmission needs while thinking about the build.
building an engine that has a power band in the 4500-7000 rpm range, will be no fun around town...

well the guy I'm thinking of buying it from set it all up to go in his old ford truck. he set it up to be around town/travaling and everynow and again a track. its only got a 5k cam in it. But its built for torque. He's guessing. 450hp and 5 to 6 range for torque. its a bad ass engine. while I got people commenting. Is there a rebuild for the ford 9" rear end to make it Posi track?

i would definetly stay with the 351. the 460 is going to need conversion motor mounts
and the weight is going to make it handle like a boulder on wheels ,unless you want to straight line. 460 is great for boats ,truck pulls. the 351 would be your best bet. you can always stroke the 351. you can get a possie from currie enterprises

You can buy 9 inch Ford locking diffs on ebay for around 400 pretty much every day. Summit racing has a WIDE selection of gear ratio's to choose from. Your cam will determine your rear gear needs, and torque converter stall speed. When you go higher than a 3.50 in a 3 speed auto car, you really start to feel it in your fuel consumption, if you get on the highway. There are a few reasons to take advantage of modern technology, and the ease of finding an overdrive trans is one! You can still run a performance rear gear, and get good mileage on the highway, as well as have a conversation by keeping the final drive down....As your car already needs an engine and transmission, you might be able to find a donor car, like a full size ford, with 5.8L AOD for cheap. Or, even a V8 mustang T5 for cheap near where you are at. Craigs list is a great resource for a lot of that kind of stuff.

One of the nice things about the C-4 is it's one of the easiest automatics to rebuild. So if you are worried about the one you have, it's something you can do yourself with just a few tools you can make. And while you are in there do a few upgrades. Otherwise, run it! If you have a pan fill C-4 then you should already have the big servo.
