I have a 91 lx 5.0 automatic vert and iam looking to wake her up a little bit and give her some more power. I have dropped in ford racing 373s, under drive pulleys, bbk cold air intake, MAF, bbk off road h pipe w flow masters and bbk shorts. All the ignition is upgraded w ford racing components. I also eliminated the smog pump and cats. I don't wanna mess around with heads or a cam right now but aim looking to pick up a little more horse power. Any suggestions on how and any idea what hp iam at with the work I've done. She's pretty quick and the gears really made a difference but I feel she's holding back a bit.

The only thing left that I can see is maybe cobra 1.7 roller rockers . That will give you a little more valve lift and cut down on valve train friction. You could also try a trickflow intake with a 65mm throttle body and spacer.

I figured I would do the rockers later on when I go with heads and a cam. Does a bigger throttle body really give u a big jump? I like the look of the stock intake and want to keep it looking that way. Thanks for the info.

The aftermarket intake and throttle body might help a little, but the fact that you have stock heads will prevent it from performing at its peak. With a good set of heads and cam it's a must. The best way to go is with a matched set like a Holley systemax which is an intake, heads and a cam matched for the best performance.

A stock AOD LX would be expected to put down ~175-180rwhp. Yours probably has ~25rwhp more. If you're going to upgrade the throttle body, I suggest you go at least 70mm but it'sbetter if you wait until you're ready to upgrade the intake manifold at the same time.

Have you looked into changing the torque converter yet? Not an actual change for increasing horsepower but can make one heck of a difference in the seat of your pants, kind of like the gear upgrade in a way.

I have been eyeing the Professional Products Upper/lower intake for a while. It is a clone of Edelbrock, my friend was very happy with it when he used in on his supercharged 90' motor. I couldn't find the 5.0 magazine article on the shootout between this one and several others but I recall it was good for somewhere around 25-30 horsepower, not bad for $390.

What's your rpm at 60 with those 3.73's?

IMO buy a used performer instead of the Pro Products intake. I have heard and seen in person a lot of issues with quality and tolerances on them. I see used Performers for $300 and less all day long on CL and the boards.

Get with Dan at Silverfox Transmissions for your AOD upgrades. Check him out at clickclick racing website. Its better to get the whole thing right the first time, (converter, valve body etc...). I agree on the intake. You can get a nice used one from here or over on Corral. I've seen a lot of the Chinese stuff like Profproducts. Its just not worth saving a hundred bucks for the poor quality. Don't go cheap on the throttle body either, get an Accufab or nothing. All the others are good paper weights and thats it, unless you like your car whistling and singing whale song all day...lol.

Cool Thanks. I wouldnt by any commie parts for my car. I was looking to keep the motor as original as possible just maybe cam and heads. I like the stock look of the engine. I am gonna look into the silverfox. Thanks again.

If you really like the stock look then you should get with Tom Moss and have a stock intake manifold ported for you. Then get your self a set of Powerheads ported E-7's. If you do this you for sure should get a custom cam because you will have accurate flow data and could really dial the entire combination in. You would have about $300 in the intake, $800 in the heads and $300 in the cam. The car would probably perform better than someone who just threw expensive parts at their car. With a good AOD, 3.73's and a 100 shot, car would be sweet, and sneaky fast.

I think you are way off base by saying it would perform better with ported e7's than with "expensive" parts. At the 800$ mark you propose for the stock heads to be ported you can have a set of aftermarket aluminum heads that out of the box will perform leaps and bounds better than any e7 could ever dream. If you really need to keep the sneaky look then paint the aluminum heads black or with cast blast and not many will be the wiser..

I'm not an AOD fan to say the least

Do you mind telling everyone where you base your opinion from when you say "accufab or nothing" ?
