Hey guys, I am new here and I just purchased my first foxbody last week. Its an 89 lx coupe 5.0. Yesterday I noticed a small amount of fluid under the car. After taking a closer look I noticed that behind the crankshaft pulley, this gasket/seal was torn. Could anyone help identify what this is, and how hard it is to replace. I appreciate all your help.

That appears to be the rubber strip that is vulcanized to the harmonic balancer. Im assuming if you start the car it is wobbling really bad. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR or severe damage will occur, you need to replace the balancer. No oil is in that unit so the timing cover seal is most ikely leaking which can be replaced while the balancer is off, or the balancer is wobbling bad enough to hit the timing cover and grind through,

Youll need to buy or rent a balancer installer and puller to do the job properly, not hard but can be a little tight with the radiator in your way.

Nope, that's the balancer starting to come apart. That rubber is the only thing holding the outer ring of the balancer on, and when it lets go, it'll probably take your radiator with it. Not to mention the crank is running out of balance the whole time leading up to that point.
