i dont think i even opened the radiator cap when i did mine. Hardly any coolant came out. I put some teflon tape on he threads, just to insure no leaks took like 3 mins

Should be pretty straight forward. Probably lose a little coolant out the heater hoses. Im pretty sure you should put some thread sealer on the threads...the stock threads definately have something on them. Its a %$#$% to get the thing lose...i remember when i took it out. But none the less, it will come out.

Good Luck

Are you just replacing an old one, or putting in an aftermarket gauge?

If the car is cold, don't open the cap. Should lose very little if any coolant.

If your car needs a flush any how, at least you have a reaon to do it. I do it once a year cause I store my car a lot. Should be a piece of cake no matter what gauge you use. I used some regular teflon tape. Worked great. Actually came with my autometer temp gauge.

WHOOPS, lol i thought u were referring to the ECT sensor. My bad, disregard my post above.
dont sweat it Nate, so did I. the ECT is a sensor, while the gauge has a sender (sending unit). A sensor was mentioned in the original post.

Anybody who is having problems with sluggishness or poor driveability should replace this thing. I $h*t you not my car run's so much stronger now. It just is a lot more fun to drive and i am happy i replaced this part. Took like 5 mins too :)

I want to replace this as well as my ect, Ive been posting this for a few days now.

Could someone link some kind of part numbers for the sending unit and ect. I dont care how much it is, i want my car to run normal.

As long as your temp gauge isnt acting up, dont worry about the actual ECT Sending Unit (This plugs into the water outlet on the front of your lower intake manfold). What i replaced was the Coolant Temperature Sensor which plugs into the hard line just ABOVE the water outlet. Here are a couple links for the Coolant temp SENSOR http://autozone.com/servlet/UiBroke...LAR+PARTS+LOOK+UP|~COOLANT+TEMPERATURE+SENSOR ... http://secure.50resto.com/product1.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=225&Category_ID=548 . If you want the actual ECT Sending Unit, here is that also http://secure.50resto.com/product1.cfm?SID=1&Product_ID=659&Category_ID=548 But remember the one that will make a difference in the way your car runs is the actual SENSOR, the first two links i posted..The sending unit just sends a reading to your gauge in your dash. From what i understand the actual sensor reduces or increases spark and timing according to its reading of your coolant temp. Now if the sensor is faulty or just is a piece of crap after 10+YRS of service..I would imagine that its probably sending false readings and in turn confusing your computer?? Here is a picture of where its located my friend. Good luck.

I am buying both now just to be safe. I was wondering where the ECT sender was located. if there is a pic with a circle that would be great :)
it is to the driver side of the distributor and a little behind it. it has one wire attached to it.

I finally found the temperature gage send unit for my 1995 Mustang 3.8 v-6. It is not where ANYONE has told me or written in the blog. It is down some in front of the engine almost to the power steering pump mount. Looks like the mount is just enough in the way as not to permit a deepwell socket. Will need long nose pliers to pull the connector off.

Oops. That's the dash sending unit. The Yellow302 was asking for the location of the ECT. It's located on the heater bypass above the T-stat housing and has a two wire connector and is on the passenger side of the distributor.

As you saw in earlier posts on the thread, there was confusion about what was being discussed (the ECT isn't a sender. In the post you quoted in particular, he referenced a sender).

That was from 2005 so hopefully he figured it out.
