I originally posted this in the general automotive threads but I realized a the threads are a bit old, with no replies. I guess not a lot of people go into that section. I am re-posting here because I'm sure there are people in this section that have come across this before. Here it is:

I will be picking up a shop press to rebuild the rear end & T5 on my mustang. Anybody have any experience with a reasonably priced bearing separator or gear puller I can purchase. I'm a bit worried about the quality of the harbor freight set. I worked in the automotive field in the past and my tools mainly consist of snap on and Matco but I'm not really interested in spending $150 plus on one. $50 to $100 may not be too bad for me.

I used the harbor freight separator to remove my pinion bearing when installing gears worked out pretty well . I had to buy a piece of all thread to get the right distance the ones that came with kit were to short. I'm happy with it.

I feel your pain. I have a Matco piece that works great but honestly it is hard to justify the cost of some of these tools anymore... What do you stand to loose trying the HF piece?

Great, did you get the single large separator or the set with two and the puller?

Thats the one I was thinking of getting. I'm glad to hear someone used it exactly for what I will be using it for and it worked out. I'll will be giving it a shot. Picking up my press today. Hey 84Ttop, do you have any pics of that 84?
