'15 Turbo 4 Cyl

The 4 cylinder will have gobs of torque all over. However, I too was disappointed to see only 305 hp. I would have rather them put in a TT V6, like what the Taurus has. It will be neat to see what the aftermarket can get out of the little 4 banger though.

The ecoboost are great motors but the only way to get the EPA rated fuel mileage out of it is to drive it at 60mph down the highway. I dont think a turbo 4 cylinder is going to sell in the long run.

and this is FOX related how? I was expecting a post where you sold the Vortech and are now swapping in a 2015 turbo 4cyl. Had my hopes up and all but now I'm depressed.

Time for a breakfast waffle taco. @TOOLOW91 @mh686
Thanks for nothing...... I expected a tag here!

FWIW the 6cyl is only going to be offered in the US market. They are releasing the turbo4 in the European market and expect it to do well there from what I've been reading.

This. Ford is going global. The US tends to "dislike" 4-bangers and prefer bigger engines for our more open roadways, but in Europe and Asia, lower displacement 4-cyls are king. Ford offering a 4-cyl turbo opens the market up, and helps lower their CAFE numbers as well. More gas-sipping 4-bangers means they can build the limited runs of Boss 302's and Shelby's without killing their CAFE numbers.

If i had to buy a V6 or 4-banger turbo Mustang...i'd rather take the 4-cyl. Some tuning, exhaust, increase the boost and way more potential for higher HP numbers...plus less weight up front.

I think the 4cyl turbo would do great in the USA. After all, anyone who buys a Mustang that's not a V8 isn't getting it for performance IMO. They just want a Mustang that gets decent MPG's so why not give them what they want and add some performance on top of efficiency?

My 5 y/o son calls a Mustang with a single exhaust (denotes a 4 cyl or V6 engine) a girl Mustang. I love brain washing my kids. :rlaugh: However a 305hp turbo 4 banger would get an *

I dont see a ecoboost 4 cylinder being a more economical option than the 5.0. On paper it would be, but in the real world i bet they are within 2mpg of each other in the hands of the average driver.

Maybe, maybe not. Had the girlfriends Focus ST out on the highway last weekend. With her, I and a car full of gear we were seeing just a shade over 42mpg on the highway and a solid 30mpg in the city. There's only a 250lb weight difference between the Focus ST and Mustang GT.

Even with the slight bump in displacement, I can't imagine any 5.0L coming close to those numbers? I'm betting the mileage will be closer to 5-10mpg between the Ecoboost I-4 and the 5.0L Coyote.

I dunno, its all speculation until the car comes out i guess. Gearing will play a big factor also, i am just basing off of my own personal expierience with the EB in my truck being very close to the real world MPG of the 5.0 in similarly equiped trucks.

Even if it gets 40mpg i still dont understand the mentality of someone that buys a 30+k dollar sports car to be fuel efficient and save money. You could just buy an older honda or something, get similar mileage and save the sports car for nice days with the more powerful engine.

There are a lot of people that don't view it that way. Many people just like to have a nice looking car to drive, and the Mustang fits the bill. Some people like the fuel savings. I don't think there has ever been a year where the V8 version of the Mustang outsold the 4 or 6 cylinder versions.

As far as the fuel economy differences, I think it will be substantial between the V8 and four cylinder.
