Wheels-Tires Do These Tires Make Me Look Fat?

All joking aside, do these tires looked ballooned to you guys? Is there anyone out there with Mickey Thompson Street Comps? I mounted my tires this weekend and for some reason, to me, the sidewalls seem ballooned. Was just wondering if this is how they're supposed to look or if my wheels are too wide for 245s? I thought my wheels were 17x9, but since I did not purchase them, I'm not 100% on that.

Tires are 245/45-17s

Not sure I can get anything wider than 245s under the front fenders (they'll probably rub some as it is). How wide can you go on the rear a) without removing the quad shocks and b) removing the quads? I have adjustable upper and lower control arms, so I guess I can remove the quads.

245 is just perfect for the fronts....i have 275 on the rear no issues...

A 245 is the low side for a 9" wheel (better fir an 8"), but it does work, although it does look a bit narrow. I run 245/45 bfgs all around right now, but used to run a 275/40 nitto dr out back with quads just barely, any other 275 and youll need to ditch the quads.

Get 275's for the rear and forget ever rotating your tires. Save the tires from the rear and use them to replace the fronts in the future.

I have lowering springs on my 92 hatch 4cyl swap. The donor 87 didnt have the quad shocks I keep hearing about. Should I source some shocks and install them, or put in 9 inch rims? I like the look of the Cobra rs or 03 Cobra. Im still 4 lug. What size rim/tire looks good/fits good/hooks good? my goal is to surprise the guy across the street with his 500 hp 72 camaro. he cant hook for crap, so i want to catch him at the main road one day and get one good run against him and not run him again, lol.

I've got 255/45/17's on the front of my 17x9's and they fit just about square. Ideally, you want a little bit of side-wall protruding past the rim to give you a little curb protection and retain the best ride quality.....but for some reason, wheel and tire packages keep being offered with a 245mm tire on a 9" rim?!?

I've also got 275.40/17's on a set of 17x10's in the rear and they too fit very squarely. Could stand to be a tad wider IMO.

I had to get rid of the quad shocks and tweak the tail pipes a little for them to fit.


FWIW, the '03-'04 Cobra had 9" wide wheels all the way around, with a 275/40/17 and they fit about perfect....but then SN95's have a little more room under the front fenders for fitment.

I'm not worried about fender clearance, more so how the sidewalls look mounted on my wheels.

thanks....i have the 275 on my sc rims,im thinking of the 10" deep dish,wondered how they would fit on them,it could work since my tires are brand new by the looks of.....i read all about the fittment,did you have to bang your inner fender wells for clearance?,or was the quad removal and exsaust tweek enough?....thanks again...

Quad shocks had to be removed and the tailpipes had to be pulled in about 1/2" on either side. I did motivate the inner fenders a tad with the BFG to ensure there would be no rubbing. I also rolled the fender lips a tad in both front and rear for the same reason.

I experience no issues. My car is also lowered approx 1/2-3/4" over stock.

The 255's on the 9" rim and 275's on the 10" bulge far less than the initial photo of the 245 on the 9" rim, but you will still experience it to some degree.

Ideally, I would run a 275mm tire on 9" rim and a tire over 295mm in the rear....but unfortunately a 275mm would have some major interference issue with the front end components without some serious modification. Also, nobody makes a 295mm tire in the correct aspect ratio for a 17" rim. A 315/35/17 is the correct hight, but a little large for a 10"....and you would certainly need to do some banging to get them in there.

tire size isnt the issue it is the backspacing of the rim that dictates tire size you can use on a fox.
