Ive worked at many custom body shops and dealerships in the past.. Hell even had a hand in painting / building the Cadillac 16 at the international auto show years ago here in Detroit.. and that black looks "perfect".. !!!

I'll be finalizing the insurance on the car tomorrow. I also have a dyno tuning session scheduled at All Out Auto for 8/9 weather permitting. Hopefully the sun is shining so I can get this thing running.

I'd like to know details on the insurance, you can be vague in some aspects but I'm curious how coverage works for collector and classic cars in association with cost per month and replacement/repair details. Educate the masses if you're wiling. Do they require receipts? Lots of pictures? Did you send them a link to this thread? lol
 
I shopped around a lot for insurance. I wound up finding the best combination of features and price from Classic Collectors Insurance. They are owned by Infinity. I did an agreed value policy of $42,000. Full tort with 100/300/100 limits. $0 deductible for comp, $100 deductible for collision. Cost is $395 a year. I opted for the 1200 mile limit, but can up it to 6000 if I want to for a few more bucks a year.

They wanted 6 pictures of the car. One from each side as well as the engine and interior. They did not ask for any receipts. I originally wanted $45k coverage, but they would only insure the car for the value in its current state. There is no front end on the car so I dropped what I believed to be the value of the front end. When the car is completely done, I can resubmit pictures and change the policy for the full amount. They also had to make sure the coverage on this car didn't exceed my personal policy. I'm working with a local broker to do the paperwork. It has been a relatively painless process. Most classic insurance companies have the same typical requirements.

I've got mine insured as a "classic", but it's no where near as nice as the one in this thread. There's some rules to it... Mine has to stay garaged, I have an agreed value with the insurance company currently set at $7500 but I think I will bump that up now that it has an IRS in it as well. They did require pics of all sides, interior, and the garage it will stay in. My cost was like $140/year for it and I can't drive it more than 5K miles per year.

I would definitely bump that up. I have my 89 at 12k and Grundy did that with no questions asked. Now that I'm almost up and running again, I will likely bump it up to 16

Mine has a no racing rule. I had to sign a paper agreeing that I won't bring it to the track. Other companies might be different though.

And I couldn't imagine what it would cost to build my car if I brought it to a shop and wrote a check. I have an estimated 1500 hours in it.
