Ok I think I've got the motor I want planned out for a coupe build. I'm open to any suggestions and if you have this setup be sure to let me know hp it put down. My goal is to get as close to 600rwhp as I can get. Will this setup even come close?

•Dart shp block
•Scat 331 stroker kit
•Afr 185 aluminum heads
•Custom grind cam
•Race ported upper and lower GT40 intake
•On3 turbo kit
•1.7 roller rockers
•75mm throttle body
•42lb injectors

You will need more than 42lb injectors.
The intake ported or not is a restriction, you could still get there, but me personally i'd use a better intake.

I would use a better turbo kit too. There is no such thing as a cheap 600rwhp setup. When the numbers start to get that high you really need to have the best parts to keep it reliable or all you will be doing is building a $15,000 time bomb.

I think the power level is achievable the way you sit now, you will need to run more boost to use that intake though. If you use a better flowing intake you put less stress on your turbo and head gaskets with a lower boost level.

Another quick question. I've got another 89 hatch car that i want to have a little fun in. I know this route isn't going to be no where close to 600hp but what kinda numbers you think this setup would bring?

Explorer gt40 motor
Stock mustang forged pistons
Afr 185 heads
1.7 roller rockers
Custom cam
RPM II intake
Full bolt ons
Long tube headers
X pipe
3" exhaust to turn downs
Maybe a 75-100 shot

Not sure why you would stick with a 302 based Windsor to make that power figure?

I'd scrap the dart block altogether, pick up a production 351w and punch it out to 393/408+ cubic inches and have at it.

You'll be replacing every conceivable component from the original 302 to build up the dart block anyway, so why not just buy the 351W specific components instead? It seems an like a lot of additional work and cost for nothing to limit ones self to only 331ci of displacement and rely on huge amounts of boost to make up the difference? The production 351W block has already proven capable of withstanding power levels into the 1,000hp range, so why spend the same amount on just a dart block, that you could on a complete 400+ cubic inch, pump gas friendly short block....and hit your goal with more conservative boost levels?

Work smarter, not harder.

It's gonna be a street car with occasional racing. Haven't done much research on the 351 block. What's a good vehicle and year to get one out of? So you would recommend a 351 block over a 331 stroker? Only thing I've ever heard about the 351 is they are too heavy. But then again like I said I've not done much research.

Why not buy a good blueprint crate 347 engine that comes with 415hp ...it cost $4000.00 from jegs it comes with a good warranty. Then if you want to you can throw a 150 shot at it. How much are you trying to spend because to make 600hp will cost you.

There are many different ways of getting good power.

Just be realistic with your finances.
You don't want to be one of these dreamers that starts something and lands up selling it off as parts for half what you paid.

600rwhp is EXPENSIVE. No matter how you slice it, it ain't going to be cheap.
The trans, rear, engine, power adder are going to cost quite a bit, let's not forget brakes, fuel system and suspension. If you don't have all these parts already, i wouldn't be surprised if the build costed 20 grand.

Keeping your goals below 500rwhp and staying NA could save you an absolute ton of money.

A good NA 347 or 351 will make between 425-500rwhp (351 based), done with a well thought out setup consisting of quality parts.

Coming from someone who's currently running a 331, I'll tell ya....I can't help but feel I should have built a 408W.

Don't get me wrong, the 331 is a screamer and definitely a big step up from a 302, but on the street....torque is king and with the additional cubes, a stroked and poked 351W has it in spades.

With a good H/C/I set up, you could make 450-500hp N/A with a stroked 351W without killing your wallet like you would with a dart build and with a lot less effort than you could starting with a 302.
