1966 Power Steering And Possible Rack And Pinion?

Ok, so, with the interior pretty much done, I am looking to upgrade other parts of the car (before I dive headlong into paint and body work). Our car has the 200 straight 6 in it. Although it's not terribly hard to steer with no power steering, it would be a nice upgrade. I'm wondering if there is a later model 'donor' car that these parts can be stripped from and used to convert the steering without too much hassle?

I am also wondering if trying to convert to a rack and pinion system would be worth the effort?

I know there are a LOT of aftermarket kits available, and I guess that's great if you have tons of cash to sling around. However, I'm your average Joe and have to be budget conscious. So if anyone has any experience in this department I would really appreciate any advice/knowledge you would be willing to share.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for posting that. Like I said tho, I am really trying to keep this on a bit of a tight budget. That's why I was hoping there might be a 'donor' car out that that would have the parts I need without too much hassle making them work...

I don't think I'm going to bother with the R&P.... since the car has the str8 6 200, it handles good enough by my standards. The main thing I don't like is trying to pull in and out of parking spaces with the manual steering. So I would really like to upgrade that without breaking the bank. I still have body work and everything else to do. Damn, it sucks not being a millionaire sometimes... lol

So, anything I can strip off other cars that would work relatively 'easy' would be nice.

As far as i know, there is no donor car with a R&P that will bolt up. You say you are on a budget well how about piecing together the original bendix style power steering? I put mine together for around $500. Sure it leaks like a siv but it does the job, spins my 17x9 front tires from a dead stop. Im just saying, sometimes there isnt a upgrade to be had when you are on a budget.
