There's some truth to what he's saying, but 6500 rpm is not too much to ask for, and you really shouldn't go much higher on a stock 302 block, anyway. There's just no way to keep the main caps from walking. A guy named Marc Arnold, no relation to me, put together a '93 Cobra with an unconventional high RPM hydro-cammed 302 build. When he pushed over 7k, even on neutral balanced, forged, and girdled internals, there were clear signs that the mains were walking around - bad juju.
6500, though, is not a big deal, and I used to run my n/a 302 combo to that RPM. It was still pulling strong, and I had no issues to speak of. Low end torque was excellent, and the mild cam meant pretty nice street manners. I think it made a bit over 330 lbs-ft at a bit over 4k rpm, but was way stronger than stock at low RPM, too. Plus, if you don't like the low-end, you can always gear up. 1st gear with 4.10s will always put some crazy torque to the pavement. You'll probably realize that it's hard to keep traction, and high end power becomes more interesting, at that point.
I run a 331 for IMO correct reasons, but 95% of guys considering a stroker should be looking at a 3.40" stroke crank for a 342/347 instead of the 3.25" for the 327/331. I, for one, will not delve back into that particular subject unless the unlikely event of something new comes up, but there's a ton of threads here that cover the subject comepletely.
