RANT!!! More Junk That Bugs Me.

I just hate mustang people, most f body guys are just as bad.
Jesus. I made an attempt to buy a roller through a couple f-body pages a couple weeks ago. Just wanting to see what I could get my hands on and make a quick buck.
Mustang guys are pretty dense (as a majority) but there's something in the kool-aid in f-body world.

Alright,.I partially concede. The point is that a typical beater is not built "right". It's usually built for one thing.
If you build a 4 door mont to truly keep up w/ the new Vette, GT 500Shelby,SRT8Challenger, Z28Camaro,
It's gonna look like it.
And while it won't cost anywhere near 80k to make that happen, You're still gonna have a buttload in it.

And the resale price of a nice 4 door mont is.........................1000.00?

Matter of fact I know a guy right now that has well over 20 times that in a two door version, and I'd bet it wouldn't have a prayer in any of the above arenas.

And furthermore.......It's still a Fairmont.

And we're talkin about one w/ two additional doors on top of that.

You can't get 3 outta 10 Mustang guys to look at them, how do you spose they'd fare in the common populace when sitting next to one of the above?

all good points, but then if i were going to build a vette killer sleeper fairmont, i first would not concern myself with the money invested, as i know it is going to be rather costly, and second, i dont want nor will i care if people dont look at my fairmont twice, thats the whole point of a sleeper. no one looks at it. it is designed to go unnoticed until they are looking at tail lights and wondering how that fairmont is so damn fast.

i want people to be suckered by a sedate looking grandmas car, i wnat them laughing at me when i challenge that vette, and then watch their jaws drop wide open when i win, and then they laugh at the vette.

If I'm dumping money in any car:
#1 How fast it is is my last concern.
#2 How good it looks/functions is my top concern.

It's all about pride in the ride for me. Having a fast car that just looked like it was recently retired from service as an Argentinian government staff car is nothing to puff up about.

Some guys are more into form over function, some guys are more into function over form. :shrug:

That said, I've seen some DAMN nice Fairmont renditions done over the years that I would be proud to tool around in.

Are they as sexy as a Vette....no, I suppose not, but I'll tell you right now...that Fairmont owner is going to get the nod from me....simply based on the amount of work and dedication he put into his ride. Not to mention is probably going to attract a lot more looks at a car show than any run of the mill C5/C6/C7 will. Let's face it....ya see one Vette, ya seen them all. :shrug:

2. I have a model of a 67 fastback that I keep in my car because for as long as I can remember I've wanted one so I keep it there to remind me off the goal
For the most part I agree with you though.

Ah yes...the "this is my first Mustang. I want to make 22psi of booooost and crank out a thousand horsepower through stock block 302, but I've only got a $300 budget to work with" type people.
Cause they romanticized 'bout the 5.0 and didn't realize it was such a dog when they bought it and it'd take a butt-load to get er up to par. That and or they're new to automobiles in general and need some guidance. I suppose you could just reply "do a search" for every question and end new threads all together and turn forums into a library of sorts.

+20. C'mon guys, do y'all really think the guy really wants his shiny alternator sitting there with his 30 year old valve covers!? Y'all are taking for granted the fact that not all have the luxury of duping thousands of dollars/loonies into their toy all at once. The bullsheet shiny alternators and all the bullcrap bolt-on parts that everyone hates answering questions about keep the hobby and dream alive.

So the solution to the shiny part next to the dirty one takes thousands of dollars to fix?
Last time I checked, you could get your whole engine clean for about 3.oo at the .25 car wash.

I wasn't saying that somebody had to spend thousands of dollars to justify putting a new 3G on their engine before posting a picture of their work. All it takes is a day and about 20.00 to bring a nasty engine compartment back to a level that I'd be OK lifting my hood. Either that process gets lost on a lot of people, or they're just too lazy to spend some time doing it.
The picture that you posted of the engine compartment above is an example of what some time spent cleaning, and painting will yield.

At the same time, I'm also not telling you that everybody has to go out and detail their engine compartments, so I'll reiterate.

"If you are too broke, or too lazy to get a couple cans of Gunk, and don't have the time to devote a Saturday to making the top of your engine compartment look better than the bottom of it, I don't need to see a picture of your brand new 200.00 alternator sitting in the middle of it".

I am currently this ^^.

My car is pickled and stored. There are a HOST of things that need my attention that I currently don't have the time to do. With this being the case, I certainly don't have the time to go and take pics of it either.

I do look forward to the day though.

The exception to this sentiment is just 1. I love progress threads! I want to see that jalopy in all of it's glory when... no... BEFORE that overhaul begins. :)

Look at the bracket. It's just dirty, but dude was too busy bolting his new air filter onto it the take it to the faucet w/ an old tooth brush to clean it the rest of the way.

I'll bet he installs it this way too.
