Look at the bracket. It's just dirty, but dude was too busy bolting his new air filter onto it the take it to the faucet w/ an old tooth brush to clean it the rest of the way.

I'll bet he installs it this way too.
That's terribly dirty to you?

Sorta but erm... umm....

:fap:

Let's be honest....even those guys turn their noses up at the new Vette owners.

Cause they romanticized 'bout the 5.0 and didn't realize it was such a dog when they bought it and it'd take a butt-load to get er up to par. That and or they're new to automobiles in general and need some guidance. I suppose you could just reply "do a search" for every question and end new threads all together and turn forums into a library of sorts.

Big dreams and big aspirations are fine....even the unrealistic ones. Every new car guy has them....but when they post a thread about it and start arguing and copping attitudes with the guys that have paid their dues and been there and done it over they years.....simply because they don't like the answers their given and can't fathom being told they "can't" take a shortcut, this is where I roll my eyes and walk away.

There's more than one way to skin a cat, but there's no way to pump 600 reliable horsepower into your stock block 302 for $300.....I don't care what colour paint you use! How many guys do we hear quote astronomical horsepower numbers or boost figures and figure they need to go nines cause that's what their buddies civic is running.....yet have never been in a car that runs faster than 14's?

I swear....the modern car world has never recovered from the ridiculousness of The Fast and the Furious franchise. Here we are, more than a decade after the first movie was made and we've still got guys thinking 10-second ET's are little more than a partial exhaust, a CAI, a few stickers and a set of coloured spark plug wires away.

Want people to take you seriously, start using your head! I had a very reasonable knowledge base and more automotive experience than most when I joined this site way back when, but I still knew enough to use the search function and read up for hours before making my first post and had at least a realistic grasp in regards to the cost and work involved in building a "truly" fast car.

Those days are gone. This new privileged and coddled, Facebook society wan't instant gratification and they want it now. Nobody want to put the time or effort involved into honing and learning the craft....they'd rather just watch a movie, live in that bubble and blame the community....or worse yet the machine when the man makes the mistake.

Sleepers are pointless.
The only person that they fool is yourself.
Let's see, i line up next to some guy in a beat up old 4 door. So i give it no thought, they let it rip, i don't. Do sleeper owners consider that a win, because they tricked me into not racing?

Sleeper foxes are even dumber. New's flash, any fox could be a fast one. If you get surprised by one than you are just arrogant.
Generally speaking, while not all people like foxes, most understand that it very well may be pretty quick, regardless of whether or not it looks modified.
Oh, and mickey thompson drag radials on 10 holes and an idle that drowns out my radio aren't that inconspicuous.

And Gearbanger, i agree with everything you said.
When i join a site for a hobby (or necessity in some cases), i read read read read. Then when i have a clue, i speak. Most of the answers are out there without even asking a question.
I avoid some of the posts here where guys have yet to prove that they are any more than just talk. 500rwhp takes 10,000 bucks, 600rwhp takes 15,000+. If they don't have that kind of wallet, i don't even see the point in taking part. And in reality if they did have the insight and the money to pull it off, they probably wouldn't be here asking questions.

I'd say at least show us something you did in the past to build some type of credibility so that we know you really have the means to get it done.

Oh.....I don't know about that. There's a sleeper, then there's a SLEEPER.

I fooled and dropped the jaws of many a Mustang owner in my Cougar when I had it. Give them the nudge at the light....they laugh, but I still see their knuckles get whine gripping the steering wheel. Light turned green and all they got was tail lights. I'd never once lined up with someone who thought they had a faster car that didn't go balls out when the light turned green.

Unless you really knew what to look for, a person would have had no idea that I was running anything special under the hood. As the matter of fact, had I not swapped out to Mustang Cobra wheels, the car would have gone unnoticed completely

....that was until they heard the blower scream and saw it break the tires loose at 40mph.

Yeah, that seems to be the sad reality of it, doesn't it. The worst part for the newbs is that of all the guys that really know, only a handful seem to participate in these conversations any more.

The others are just so turned off by ego's, the constant questioning of their logic, or answering the same old questions.

Maybe it's a regional thing or maybe I am just not looking for it anymore, but I dont really see this too much anymore around RI and MA. The guys who were in there late teens when The Fast and the Furious came out are now in or entering there 30s and have matured some (myself included). The kids seem to be all about the stupid stretched tire and silly negative camber look these days.

Not quiet show car quality, but I did my entire engine compartment with nothing but spray cans. Probably have about $75 in everything I did, including the wire tuck.

Joe
Looks good, you did the firewall, strut towers, etc? I need to go back and touch up mine. I didn't removal all that much, just kinda sprayed what I could get too. It does look much better than when the bay was teal and the body was blue though.

I was just thinking this same thing, I'm 32 andlived through the "Fast and The Furious" era. The ricer sceene is all but gone. You don't see too many imports running around w fart-cans these days, and if you do see one its old and beat up. You never ever see a new one tricked out tuner style, but what you will see is a baby carseat in the back. The import automakers don't even seem to be producing very many entry level fun cars w the exception maybe of scion frs. Furthermore HKS and GReddy went out of business and that would be like us loosing Steeda and Maximum Motor. Here is a decent read. http://www.roadandtrack.com/columns/countersteer/the-end-of-the-line-for-hks-usa
Ps: anyone know where to get a good deal on an sr22? :dammit:

Yep, I painted the entire engine bay while the motor was out. I used Duplicolor's Perfect Match in the spray cans. They make it in a lot of OEM colors. Is it a perfect match? No, but its a whole lot better then the rust and faded paint that was there. I also painted all the brackets, windshield wiper motor, etc.
