As promised, I have updates and pictures on our 94' Cobra build. Just finished the engine up and dropped it off with the body shop for installation. Like always, it's been a lot of hassle to get al these parts to fit together.

Longblock Basics.
Stock rods and crank balanced
Mahle forged flat top pistons
Stock Block 0-decked
GT-40x heads, milled 40/1000s, 6 angle competition valve job, new springs
Comp Extreme Energy camshaft.

First challenge, getting a windage tray into a stock Cobra oil pan. The Moroso windage tray was a bust. There was no way of getting it to clear. Went with a Canton windage tray, which almost fit. I clearanced the oil pan for the main studs. Everything needs a quarter inch down there, so it involved a huge hammer, then test fit with play dough to ensure proper clearance. I really wanted to use a stock dipstick that would come in and out as it was originally built. It's all about the details on this build. The stock dipstick in the stock location goes right into the windage tray. I used a 5/16" brake line and hand bent it to direct the dipstick away from the windage tray, then welded it to the bottom of the stock dipstick. Then ground it smooth so that it would slide in and out of the block.

The stock pickup tube rubbed on the windage tray. I little bending and flattening with the press made it clear. I also had to cut hole out where it mounts to the main stud for a little more clearance.

The GT-40x heads are the best fitting set of heads I have ever used on a Ford engine. Perfect mount up with the stock valve covers and stock roller rockers. The valve covers were media blasted and recoated. We have a new Cobra emblem plate for the intake, and a new Ford sticker for the valve covers.

I had Tmoss do the works to the intake. It is fully ported upper and lower. They also stripped it completely down and did a fresh factory coating on it. It came back amazing. I will never send an intake anywhere else from now on. It should flow 250cfm now.

I had to use a non Ford part; ended up using a BBK 70mm throttle body. I had the BBK logo and the 70mm logo milled off for a more factory appearance.

I have fixed the stock T5. It was pretty tore up in there. It needed $700 in parts which is more than the transmission was worth. Managed to get almost all the parts I needed used out of a 2001 V6 transmision off ebay for $168. I bought the remaining parts new for $68. No pictures of the transmission because I'm pretty sure everyone knows what a T5 looks like.

Unfortunately there won't be many updates until the car comes back from the body shop. I have the stock air filter box clearanced for the PMAS 75 MAF. It needs a little cleaning. I also have to figure out what it takes to get a 3" Griffin radiator in without looking too off factory.

I have nothing but god things to say about Matt and Tom Moss. Their communication was excellent, and service second to none. I highly recommend their services.

I am sorry I haven't been back on this website in awhile. I am compelled to keep this thread up to date. We have the engine back in the car, and running. We had the PMAS 75m MAF recalibrated, and got it into a factory air box with a lot of hacking. We bought a new Ford battery for the car. There are a few details to work out. We need to do something with that red MSD coil, and we need to get a new sticker for the radiator cover. We even got a new condom for the distributor. When was the last time anyone here saw one of those? We have a few tunability problems to work out. It still stalls out at idle every once in awhile, and the body work looks good, but it isn't perfect. The transmission shifts very well. Between work and the new baby, my time has been very limited. Hope to have this all finished soon.

LMR sells reproduction stickers for the radiator cover that have good reviews.

Looks very good. I like the idea of keeping as factory an appearance as possible.

I always wanted to do an all ford parts build, you probably could have sent the 65mm tb out and had it bored to a 70mm. There is a company that does it called maxbore, it's like $100.
Gt40x heads get a bad rap around here, but what many don't know is that a simple valve job fixes many of their short comings. Sometimes they can be had used for $500, then give them a $250 valve job and mill and you are in business.

We actually had the sticker purchased already and lost it. Have to get another one from LMR. Not sure on the heads. Every head I do at least gets a valve job. These are milled for a little more compression. We looked into the throttle body. The stock one is advertised at 60mm. We measured it, and it was actually only about 58mm. There was definitely not another cm or better of metal in there to bore it. The stock throttle body also does not have an air bypass adjustment which is necessary on these setups. Without it, you have to add a bypass plate, which is just one more non stock appearing item. We actually have the bypass adjusted almost all the way out, and the throttle blade adjusted to 1.04 volts trying to get it to hold an idle. I am going to bring the base timing up another 2 degrees when I get a chance and see if that fixes it. If not the chip is going to have to go back for a reburn.
