Question On Gears!

Love the car! But man I'd have to drop that rear some:nice: Either cut 1/2 a coil or throw some springs in there. Very nice looking and don't see to many 4 eyed coupes anymore!! Gotta love the 4 eyes!!
Im the one who raised it, I did that last week so I can add a bigger tire..... I just like the old school look. Just haven't put the M/T on yet.

Welcome to stangnet btw! Any pics of the car? From your avatar it looks sweet. If your car is running properly it should "set you back in the seat".[/QUOTE

Is yours a 85? Pretty sweet!

Once upon a time I almost pulled the trigger on those Thumper heads but I couldn't justify the hp per dollar.

They weren't Thumper heads, they were Ronnie Wilson heads. About $300 at the time. I also don't go for the iron heads anymore. The cost of an engine these days so far out weighs the cost of good aluminum heads that there just isn't enough return on investment with iron heads. Back then we were all in high school and our time wasn't as valuable. We would try and get away with things.

Mine is an 86 with an 89 mas engine with some minor mods. Fwiw you can fit a fairly big M/T under some lowering springs. How big a tire are you going with? Is your rear axle from an sn95 car? I've got 1 1/2" lowering springs and a 275/40-17 nitto drag radial on mine. If sn95 axles they are wider so clearance can be an issue without the right wheel offset.

Man that video is all too familiar!! Except its a guy with a 87 Monte Carlo with a thrown together 350 w/ a 400 crank, wore out 700R4 and a broken posi. Wont meet me at a track, swears its faster than everything in Savannah, and if he brings it to the track its gonna have a 175-225 shot on it. I have yet to see it actually break the tires loose.

I'm running 18s not 15 so I'm limited to the tire size. And I'm Running 13" Roaters now so I can no long run 15s on the car but I like the 18s anyway. So I'm going 275/45/18 in rear keeping 285/35 up front- sexy beast you have my friend.

Thanks. You still can run a lower spring in rear with your setup. There are a few guys on here that are rocking your setup. Just saying. If you're all good with the stance and don't want to change I understand. I just wanted to let you know you can lower it if you wanted to.

you, but like I said I'm a older guy love the old drag look it was setting pretty low, with the 18 I only have 3/16" from the wall and only had 1" of clearance in heigh. The look is not for everyone it was on lowering springs all the way around. Thanks again for the reply!
