Build Thread The Hoopty Chronicles - New House, New garage, New Car?

Great progress man. I cannot wait to dig into my interior next year to quiet it down. I already have hearing loss and I still think it's crazy loud. I also want to find and fix as many rattles as I can. I had to to daily drive it last week and I thought I was going to go crazy.

If I did it over, I'd order it off eBay and save more money. It's expensive but well worth the effort. My car sounded like a box of silverware rolling down stairs when it hit a bump, now it sounds like a normal car should.

I think it's time to replace the carpet. I've shampooed it, power washed it, sprayed it with smell good stuff... I'm admitting defeat to the dirty sock smell. It's bad enough this morning that I left the windows halfway down to air out. I hope there is some air moving through the parking garage!

Also, I am piecing together a new cat back. I found some 2.5" tubes online for between the H pipe and the mufflers. Jegs also now sells a Magnaflow knockoff and I traded for some 3" VRS tailpipes. It should really speak at WOT when this all goes in!

I was going to say a tackle box but that is exactly how it feels. Did you notice a big difference in rattle noise reduction or just road noise? I now will have to DD the mustang for another week or so because the intermediate leaf springs on both sides of my xterra are cracked in half. FML it snowed here this weekend.

Road noise was somewhat better but rattle noise is all but gone

The brown truck is making a few deliveries today -
New mufflers and flow tubes, E-brake cables, and heater core hoses. Should be picking up my tailpipes this week too. Already paid for them but haven't heard much - he's a local guy so at least I can go find him if needed, lol.

New exhaust this weekend! And e-brake cables. Seriously contemplating buying all of the brake stuff for the MC swap I need, but I need a break from working on this thing for a little while.

After unsuccessfully attempting to install 94/95 e-brake cables yesterday, I admitted to myself I need to read up on parts better before hitting 'buy'. Although, I am not convinced they were 94/95 cables as advertised because they didn't fit in the caliper where the cable slides in.... Anyway, I ordered the right ones from LMRS today.

So then... I did U-joints a while back but have a driveline vibration still. Well, I can't send off my driveshaft or I'd be walking to work. SO, I dug out another shaft I had laying around, bought another $30 in U-joints, and installed them. Went to the driveshaft shop a few mins ago to get it balanced and was told that it couldn't be balanced with the dent in the side of it. (it's not huge, but a dent all the same.)

So now, I get to fork out $$$ for an aluminum driveshaft.

Other than that, it's business as usual. Still running ok and getting 20+ mpg mixed driving. The heater works beautifully, I might add.

Maybe I'm wrong here...why can' they cut the driveshaft open by the ding... hammer and dolly it out and then just weld back the driveshaft together and then balance it? Guys buy explorer and f150 driveshafts and have them cut down all the time and end caps welded on. How is this different?
