Bypass / Dead Head

I have a stock mechanical pump on my 84. I need to regulate it down for the Edelbrock carb, so I was going to buy a regulator. Then I thought I might be able to put on a bypass regulator now, so that I don't have to buy a dead head for now & buy a bypass when I upgrade later.

So, to clarify, you have a carb and a mechanical fuel pump?

Dead head that sucker. Get a holley style fuel pressure regulator and rock on. They did it for years until efi came along. I never had a problem with it.

Ok. The stock mechanical pump has the "return" outlet on it. I had an Edelbrock mechanical pump on there that didn't require a regulator, but sure enough it pumped out at 8psi! I had all sorts of cavitation and what not. As soon as I shut the car off it would take forever for it to start again. Thanks, I have two.

Before I got into fox bodies I had a 1970 fastback with a holley carb, mechanical fuel pump and no return line. Worked great. A friend of mine with a brand X car recently tried to dead head an efi turbo setup and boiled the fuel from heat with an electric pump. Not recommended in that application, but old school works just fine.

Good luck.
