Long Tubes Back To Short Tubes

After 5 years I've pretty much had it with my exhaust setup. Its Hooker long tubes into a Hooker H-Pipe and into SpinTech Mufflers. Its loud and it has zero tone, and theres leaks everywhere, as the long tubes weren't perfect. Plus it feels like theres a lack of low end torque, basically it feels like its breathing too much, if thats possible.

I wanna change it back to the way it was stock. Stock manifolds into an off road H pipe and a flowmaster catback. Im hoping that it'll bring back the low end torque and quiet things down. Do you guys think its possible?

And the car is mostly stock, save for a cold air intake.

Flowmasters wont quiet it down inside the car, but maybe some Magnaflow "street" mufflers (or equivalent style) will help. Its very possible that your exhaust is too free flowing for a stock engine, depending on the size of your primaries. You may also be suffering from all the exhaust leaks. Rather than stock manifolds, I would pick up a pair of BBK shorty headers (fit like stock shorties, but allow a little more flow in the upper RPMs), and I recommend remflex crush header gaskets. I have put them on all my projects and they are top notch for sealing headers to heads.

As per the noise, I once had a fox w a bbk off-road x and flowmaster mufflers, it was fairly loud and smelly. Come inspection time I added "high flow"(magnaflow if I remember right) cats. The result was not quite as loud and not as smelly. I think chambered mufflers sound "manlier" at idle than a non chambered but the chambers drone on the hwy can suck a lil. But at any rate I recommend getting high flow cats vs none at all. It will be toned down just a little but not smelling the exhaust fumes in the cabin is the biggest plus and you're not really going to lose any power from having them.

I like my smelly car. Running stock headers, old 2.5 holly off road H, and a scummit 2.5 cat back. It's pretty quiet when needed, but sounds decent while on it. I have to say though, the mufflers that summit sells with their kit is a little too quiet for my liking, as I was thinking about swapping those for some flows.

"Turbo" style, I guess that's a fancy way of saying "old fashion" style. This is the kit I bought, but of course it wasn't on sale when I bought it!

My boy has got Pypes' stuff on his '05 GT, he likes them, I kinda do too, seem to be made of decently high quality.

They build the perfect products if you like to get practice doing things more than once.
I've had a bunch of mac products over the years, not a single one stood the test of time.

I've had tons of exhaust parts.
Bassani is the best readily available choice IMO.

There are others that are great like Kooks, but putting a $2500 exhaust system on a $5000 car may not be what the average guy should do.

I've had the Bassani exhaust (X-pipe w/cats and cat back) on my car for about 10 years now and it still looks great. I highly recommend Bassani.

I replaced my MAC equal length short tube headers with FRPP ceramic coated unequal length shorties. The FRPP headers are clearly a much higher quality than the ones they replaced.

Another vote for Bassani. I run their headers all the way back. Some of the best money spent. I will say though that the jet coated headers that I have (Bassani) did crack the coating after many years. Part of that is due to a lean condition that went undiagnosed for a time (they were glowing).

Not a fan of MAC headers, but absolutely love my MAC flopath mufflers. Best sounding mufflers ever IMO.
