Build Thread The Hoopty Chronicles - New House, New garage, New Car?

He lives! Still got the vette?
Nah man that was never more than a very spirited test drive. Had every intention to buy one in the spring but ended up coming across a car I couldn't pass up. Hadn't been on the boards since I sold the last one so I'm just wandering around getting caught up to speed

Needless to say there won't be a build thread haha. Following the wise words of Mike a little better this time. Wanted to catch up on your progress though, the idea of a soft riding, smooth running coupe makes me all warm and fuzzy. Can't say I've had one that didn't creak and moan or idle like a dump truck

Well. It's smooth running. Still creaks and moans though.

I did get 266 miles out of this last tank. And that's on an odometer that is 10 mph off at freeway speeds

Tfs 170s are sold and shipped. Ordered the PiMP today, should be a few weeks lead time, will be tuning in January when I get back from the honeymoon.

It's very similar to mega squirt. Uses a micro squirt controller and the tuning is done via tuner studio. The plus is it comes with a base tune loaded for your car and then tunes itself relatively well. Should be fun.

Self tuning software is coming along really quickly and is going to make big waves in the DIY car building world. It's awesome, you'll enjoy it

I'll be watching closely because I've been seriously thinking about getting the MSPNP. But if the PiMP setup is self-tuning/learning then I'll definitely go with that.

MS has self tuning functions as well. Which I've got first hand experience using, but can't tell you which is better between the 2.

Yeah, like I said, they both use the exact same software, so the user interface is the same. The main difference is that MSPNP uses a V3.0 board (or better) and the PiMP uses the smaller Microsquirt controller. They all do the same things, just packaged a little differently.

From what I understand, microsquirt was originally developed for jetskis and quad type applications, but was further developed to be used anywhere. Stinger made a kit out of it that plugs into the factory harness. All you really do is add a vacuum line to the manifold, add a wideband, and disconnect the MAF. Then start driving and it tunes itself. Granted, there are many details I left out, but that is the basic gist.

Im going to email them right now and see what the wait is going to be, never heard from them after placing the order.

Well.... Technically it still will be that long. Gonna be out of commission the next 2.5 weeks dealing with this damned wedding. We are both at our wit's end with all the planning. Bachelor party this weekend though!!!

Congrats on the wedding. Best advice I can give you on staying married is Happy Wife, Happy Life.

Remember, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas if you know what I mean.

Another big difference is that the Pimp will run a 4cyl boosted engine as well as a V8 for the Ford xr4ti, taurus, ranger and Mustang (among some others) all from the same platform.

Wes K was instrumental in helping create both the Stinger Pimp and the DIY Megasquirt.

@hoopty5.0 your making me want to put in my order before I'm even ready!! I think I'll do it after this weekend which is my sons birthday party. He's turning 6. That and Christmas is hurting the Pimp purchase.

First of all, congrats on getting married! Second, what's the price of the PiMP system? Since they both pretty much work the same, the price may be the deciding factor.
