Im 16 and I just bought a foxbody. Let me first start by saying it is an automatic. I got a good deal on the car so I don't care. I wanted to make it faster. It is all stock except for magnaflow exaust.
What should I do first?

Joe? Is that you? :D

Ah.... Nevermind. :) Welcome aboard. :nice:

First thing you should do is post a couple pics of your ride. Engine bay pics too.

Give us a run down on what's been done to it as far as you know.

Then start telling about what you have in mind for goals. Don't give us a HP number to chase.... We'll help you determine what HP you need in order to do what you want to do. Tell us something about how you want the car to perform and what kind of a budget you have.

Nice ride. There are so many choices with these cars as i have learned from this forum site. The sky is the limit. Keeping in mind a budget. Iron out a plan like previously stated. Do your best to upgrade parts that complement each other.
I personally have had some setbacks with mine as far as not doing enough research.
Did my vert top, 2 months later had an electrical fire and burnt symmetrical holes in it when i did my system. You obviously wont make that mistake. Bought an upgraded clutch and aluminum flywheel... After dropping tranny 3 times trying all 3 weights i went back to stock. Should have gotten a lightweight steel flywheel. Moral of my woes, which there are more is do your research. You made the best choice by joining a forum.
And buying a mustang of course.
Good luck to ya

I dunno. I'd be on the fence with that portion only because I've driven 1 or 2 very stout/built AODEs that were a lot of fun. hehehe
When dealing with stock or near stock performance the factory AODE only adds insult to injury. The T-5 makes less HP more fun in my opinion.

To the OP. I'd stick with simple bolt-on engine, handling and appearance upgrades but I highly recommend (if you haven't already) to get your brain wrapped around the fact that Mustangs can be pretty quick with very little mods but these cars do not handle very well and the brakes are sub-par to say the least. I'm lucky to be alive after getting my first 5.0 at 20 years old. I was a clueless and ignorant young owner of a quick Fox with a heavy foot and everyone on the street wanting to race me.

BTW, congrats on a nice hard to find virgin 5.0. It's something a lot of us old timers would like to get our hands on.

That's the damned truth. :nice:

The cars I'm thinking of were also built. Funny how my brain always reverts to this. hehe It's been a lot of fun though too. :D

Edit: and yeah... I was that kid too. Some of the crap I did, it was a miracle they didn't turn to disaster situations.

Yup put mine in a ditch. Spun around backwards in between 2 trees. To say I was a dumb*** would be an understatement. Completely agree on improved brakes, suspension and if in the budget 5lug conversion with some nice wheels.

Meh, we all did dumb shi t back in our days. My first, at 17, had the heart and soul ripped out in favor of a built 390 with a powerdyne and a c6 behind it. A wonder that car didn't kill me. It was totaled out sitting still. If you have to do anything to it, make it subtle. Like what was said earlier, a 5 lug conversion, nice set of wheels and lowered a little. Maybe swap the 2.73's for a set of 3.55's. These cars are getting hard to find unmolested. You have an extremely clean car, and I would try to keep it that way for as long as I could.

My vote for a performance upgrade would be to install some 3.73 gears and upgrade the trans. That will give plenty of "around town" kick in the pants. It also wouldn't detract from having a very clean unmolested car.

I will go along with this with one caveat. Don't "toss" that AODE. :chin You can't really get a whole lot for it and you just might want to use that thing again someday. :ninja:

Unless you move every couple of years then sell it.

There's been a couple of times that I'd wished I had and built auto lying around. If you do buy a manual trans though... Try and get a good one so you're not spending money twice. Obtaining and installing the pedals is going to make you wince several times (cost or PITA).
