Ive got a 347 ford block that I want to add boost to but I want the kit to be able to turn up the power when I get a dart block 347. I am also trying to keep the price down which has had me looking at on3performance but ive heard sooooo many complaints about them but yet ive heard people say that was the old garbage they were selling and that its better now. Basically im looking for bang for buck that is upgradable in the future. Even if I have to build the kit piece by piece I just don't know or trust where to get everything and no nitrous suggestions please cant get it where im located. Any help?

Vortech. A good starter kit will set you back around $2500 to $3000 new or $1500 used. You can upgrade pulleys, and head units all the way to a T trim that will make more boost than your car can handle.

I'd rather you do nothing than an On3. If you want to do a turbo I would recommend John Urist company Hellion. Best designed kits out there but they are not cheap.

I have the on3 and no problems...i know a few guys that are running them AGAIN no problems...guess were lucky...But i have had both on my 87 GT and i love the turbo over the blower...if you want to go turbo and dont want to go on3 try looking into B&G...hellion makes a great kit too....

If you are using a good sets of heads meant for a 347 with the right cam and intake, i'd just hold off on the power adder.
An S trim isn't going to add that much power to a 347 and while a T trim could easily split the block, having to pulley it for minimum boost would make it much less of a selling point at the moment.

I'd wait until you do the dart block before messing with a power adder. A good 347 should make 400-425rwhp (some more), so spending $3000 to get another 50-75rwhp isn't worth it.

As for the On3, look at the last guys experience here on stangnet. (just browse the first page of the 5.0 tech or talk)

There is no such thing as keeping the budget low and going for a number over 500rwhp. Do away with that thought, if you don't, many around here will tune you out (something i'm guilty of) because there is no point advising someone unrealistic.

Even the idea that you would be willing to consider a $2000 turbo kit with known issues on what is sure to be a $7500 engine is kinda insane to some of us.

Hellion ftw! But it will run you 4k for the entry kit and with the better options upwards of 5k. Vortech Ttrim setup is cheaper and would need to be pullied down to not split the block. Plenty Ttrims in the 650+rwhp but if looking for more you're going to need to step up to a Ys or the turbo option.

@84Ttop may be someone you'd like to talk to
Here is my take on the situation:

From past experiance a 347 with a decent set of heads should make for a pretty stout combo. We recently put an Si trim on a 347 with a trickflow top end and we wound up pullying that blower down to keep the power under 600rwhp. The problem with changing the pulley is that the warranty gets voided as soon as you do that, who wants to give up a 3 year warranty?? In this particular instance we are a Top Tier Dealer/Installer and had to get special permission from Vortech to do the pulley change and were able to maintain the warranty for the customer. This is an abnormal type situation and certainly won't be precedence setting. The T or Ti will only exacerbate the problem as it displaces that much more air flow. Now I'm not going to sit here and talk you out of a blower but your money is better spent on doing the dart block now (while your internals are still good if you intend to re use them). If 650rwhp is the goal that will easily be reached with boost and an aftermarket block. My suggestion if you do not intend to reused the old parts and perhaps sell your short block to recoupe some money would be to build a 363 dart motor (4.125 bore) this unshrouds the valves and the motor will make much more hp as a result of this. At that point a Ti or Ysi would be capable of 800 and 1000rwhp respectively.

At the end of the day, unless you want to run 4 lbs of boost (and I don't know many people that have that much self control) then an aftermarket block ie Dart will be in order first ;)

Best of Luck
