Lets Talk Dot Drag Tires

I would never gear up and run a 28" tire for the track. Just me personally, but in doing so, you now need to adjust your street tires to make up for the gear change. A 28" race tire looks good, but a 28" street wheel/tire set up, can't say I'd like the look.

My suggestion is keep it 27" tire or less.
id run 28" tires all the time at that point. i hate chaging tires in and out. 1 of the huge reasons i run radials on my car. that and they are faster and more stable

as for the 28" street tire look 295/45/17

That car sure does look nice, but I think because of how fast it is. If it was a 12-14 second car, I'd probably think the large tires were over kill.

Also is 28" optimal in your opinion? Run that tire and gear accordingly, or always go for the biggest tire?

I know you didnt ask me directly, but IMO, it depends on the rest of the car. On my setup, from high tens to high 9's i have always run a 28x10.5 stiff wall slick, I am putting some good double adjustable shocks and struts on the car and going to try a 26" tire, If i kept my single adjustable shocks on the car the 28'' tire would stay.

My problem is that I'm geared for a 28, but i don't think I have the power for them. When i get around to building the big stroker i want to hopefully build in a couple years, I won't have that problem.

Someone mentioned the new et street r's, but 1) they're not out yet, 2) theres both radial and bias ply sizes putting me in the same conundrum, and 3) I don't really want to be the guinea pig on them

M&h has a website you can visit and they have a questions area you can ask them. They will take all of your info and give you a recommendation. I'd post a link but I don't know how with my phone. A dot cheater slick in 26 or 27" would be my advise. After I use up the MT's I'm going to a 26x11.5x15 cheater. I only have 3.73's and would go up to 4.10's but I know that's to much gear for the future plans.

Edit: with tubes you really should put screws in also. If you don't want to do that go with a radial.

I dont know why the link i put up stopped working, but there was a buy now link that worked, the 26 was 200 and the 28 was around 220 a tire. The 26 and 28 are both bias ply sizes with the M5 compound and MT reps have said the bias sizes are made with a stick car in mind. I dont see how you would be the gineau pig, they arent going to release a tire to the public without testing it, and mickey thompson is hands down the best drag tire manufacturer on the market.

Either or, ( MT ET streets / Hoosier QTPro )
I like the Hoosiers better............bias ply is better on a manual trans, absorbs the launch.
A 25 mile ride on these tires isn't an issue, put 30psi in for the trip, drop to 12 - 15 @ the track.
