so i have an 88 5.0 and my cousins friend has a sn95 5.0 which i thought was very similar if not identical. He left a bell housing laying around that he didnt want and i used it on my car because it looked nearly the same. The reason i used it was because my old one had cracks in it for some reason. so i figured since they are both 5.0 it would be the same. the bolt patterns were the same for the trans and engine the only problem i have now is that my starter wont stab into it because the bulge that comes out of the side for the starter to sit in is smaller for some reason. im wondering if i can just buy a starter for a 94-95 mustang. I will upload pictures as soon as i can make it to the shop.

does anyone know if the starter is smaller or different for the 94/95 mustang or if maybe this is some after market bell housing because it seems to have extra ridges/reinforcement that my other one didnt. I chalked that up to the fact that is was newer though. i really dont want to have to change the bell housing out because my engine is already in place and trans.

So my question is, what starter do i need for this bell housing?

Your using your original 88 t5 with the SN95 bell?
Besides your starter issues, that bell will not work anyways.

The SN95 bell is deeper, to accommodate the longer input shaft of the 94+ T5.

So unless you also swapped out the input shaft of the 88 t5, you cant use the SN95 bell.

i guess i should have done the research beforehand but being the same engine, yeah i just slapped it on.

i dont recall it being any deeper tho, we had them on a table side by side and think we definitely wouldve noticed that.

im not too sure at this point tho so you could definitely be right.
