Calling All Rear Suspension Gods!

@madmike1157 lol... very valid points sir... but seeing as how as it had dumps on it before i yanked the motor, exhaust and what not out, it wasnt that big of a deal... Wifey isnt a Manilow girl and plays her radio in her truck loud anyways... i may just bolt the damn thing up see what kind of clearances i have and go form there... the Roush style side exit system may work... gotta get suspension and rear end upgraded to disc brakes, 5 lug and 31 spline axles first... exhaust is going to have to be a fab project anyways since my engine choice is going to be very unconventional and may piss off ALOT of purists, hell i wasnt totally on board myself til after talking it over with my cousin... but we can save that bombshell for later...

This is a fairly liberal forum w/ regard to tolerance for non-branded engine swaps. I doubt you'll get too many feathers ruffled, and for those that are all bothered by it, only the few loudest squawkers will even bother to piss and moan.

All that said, there are only two engines that make sense as a non branded swap over what "fits" from the factory, and When I say "makes sense" I mean the reasons to do it are obvious from a cost/performance/aftermarket perspective over a 5.0.

The only two engines that fit that category are both made by GM.

Now on the other hand,...................if you go sticking some 2JZ inline wheezer in there,...better get some Kevlar underwear, cause you're in for some nutkick.

well then i guess i better do a google search for kevlar drawers then... I know its unconventional, but at least for me it combines 2 of my favorite cars, the Fox body and the MK-IV Supra... I have always loved the looks of the Fox, but the sound of the 2JZ cranked up sounds pretty wicked... I would never consider putting bowtie anything on a Ford, but somehow the asian motor doesnt make me wanna gag as much as crossbreeding a domestic motor... Now I will admit that there are plenty of Ford powerplants to choose from that would work, and probably quite well. But as far as satisfying my urge to own a MK-IV supra that will never happen them things are being sold for almost as much as my house... but I can get a motor and trans and EMS for roughly the same as I would spend to build comparable power out of a SBF and be just like every other Fox body in my area... This way, I'm the odd one out, which is how I like it...

Somebody's watching Fast n Furious Tokyo Drift too much.

Ya,I have no problem with LS swaps, was seriously pondering that route myself(other than my Foxes my past has been all Bowties) but come on now this is blasphemy :D
Why not an EcoBoost 4 swap?If I was doing anything other than a V8 this would be it,although not exactly cheap at this point,it's definitely interesting.
I have absolutely no brand loyalty,like you I like what I like.GL

I honestly don't care about ls swaps either.. although I wouldn't do it myself. Not because of brand loyalty per se, I've owned gm cars and trucks before, and probably will again.. But when it comes to mustangs, I have had a long, long relationship with them and just prefer to keep it all a Ford. You can thank the chevy fanboy haters for that. I just enjoy busting their butt with Ford power. They can't stand it.. lol
My next project if I dont get a ranger or a fairmont might be a bubble top impala.. who knows?

While not a bubble top my first car was a 62 impala SS. Loved that car and with it being the mid 80's, it was very unique. If I knew what I had I never would have sold it.

Nice! My best friend in high school drove a black 65 SS. 327 powerglide. Freakin sweet car, man. But don't feel bad.. I've gotten rid of so many cars I kick myself for.. My first car was a 70 mach 1. Sold it for 400 bucks. Next, a 72 SS Nova. Sold it to a friend for 50 bucks when it ripped an A arm mount loose. It got cut up and made into a circle tracker... had a 64 1/2 289 coupe, and not too common, a 66 plymouth sport fury VIP. 383 big block. All gone forever.. and those are just some..

Same here. Mine was a 327-TH350-4.11 rearend. I miss that one the most because it was my first and just different than more common "hot rods". It ended up meeting its demise after taking on a tree. The guy fortunately survived but the car didn't.

Its been awhile since Ive watched Tokyo Drift, but dont for one second think that I havent pondered the RB26DETT motor and trans system... it can be had from a reputable JDM importer for under 5k, and while an AWD fox body would be friggin insane, Im lazy somewhat and dont want to do all the fab that the front suspension and drive system would require... I just want a fun car to drive that incorporates my love of the MK-IV Supras and the Fox platform... BTW this is my canvas... its not a horrible place to start but will be fun once i clear out some space so I can begin.

And in response to the ecoboost 4 or a turbo 2.3 the power number from a 4 just arent there for me... lots of work, and most of the older 2.3s never see north of 350-400 whp and the new ecoboosts havent been turned up enough to really see how they perform... guys have been building the snot out of 2jz's for years now and ive seen numerous dyno sheets and pulls where these guys can lay down 800, 900, up to 1400hp just cant get those numbers from a 4cyl... my goals are alot less lofty im looking to maybe put 600 to the wheels... that will be more than enough for me... and roughly triple what the fox laid down from the factory...

Just make sure you triple or quadruple the braking and handling. Lol. For corner carving you'll drop track times more in those departments than straight line power. These chassis/brake combos are at such a disadvantage. 600 rwhp will be a handful even in a good setup. Sounds like a very fun project.

yeah, the rear axle is gonna get gutted and new 31 spline axles and rear carrier, 4 wheel disc brake and 5 lug upgrade, going with a SN95 style cobra brakes, new master cylinder, booster and stuff... stainless braided lines instead of plain ole rubber... and im really likin the looks of the SVE Drift wheels... gonna have to get creative as they come in 18x9s and gonna be fun to massage the front sheetmetal to eliminate rubbing in corners... in the rear im gonna put a set of chicane 23's rear fenders that are flared out quite a bit... will of course detail as much as possible with a build thread once i get something substantial rolling right now its just scribbles in a notebook and pie in the sky dreams!

I acknowledge that you did say MOST 4 cylinders. . But have you ever heard of a guy named John Huber? If not you should go to you tube and check him out. Last I heard he was knocking on 7 seconds...

I remember him from back in the day. He could make those turbo 4 cyl motor cars spank many a big block

Yeah, if I ever happen across a really nice svo mustang when I happen to have the money it's mine. I spotted one a few months back that looked like new, but it wasn't meant to be.
