Muffler Help

I picked up a 95 gt 5 speed, gt 40 heads, CIA, 2.5" dual exhaust with X pipe and tuned. It has 0 muffers or cats. It's obnoxious to drive, painful even. I want it to be quiet with a hint of rumble under hard acceleration, and with minimal restriction. I know nothing of mufflers, other then brand names, and of course everyone says theirs is the best. Looking for real world experiance

I got it locally from a coworker, His son owned it and after several tickets and a fenderbender worth $600 in fines, he decided that his kid couldn't have it anymore. In Helena Mt
 
It sounds like you're asking for a slightly louder than stock exhaust system. It's a little difficult to make recommendations as an exhaust that quiet would need catalytic converters (or at least more than one pair of mufflers) to achieve what you seek. Your best bet is to look at sound clips on youtube to see if anyone there has a system that comes close to the sound you want.
 
Is there a preferred method of install resonators before mufflers or visa versa. In my research I've seen then done both ways. Aditionally. Which versions of MagnaFlow are quite then others as there are a dozen different versions
 
I would mount them before the mufflers, as it would change the sound of the muffler if you put it after. A standard oval case muffler, probably 14-16" in length would be your best bet.
 
Install resonators where the factory cats would be, and get a nice straight through design muffler. Avoid chambered mufflers.

I have used American thunder flowmaster (from Summit) 2.5 with stainless tips on all my fox cars and now I have them on my 95 GT and 95 Cobra. very happy with the looks, ease of installation, sound, performance and those tips clean up nicely.
 
So I talked my local muffler guy, He talked with me to get an idea of what I was looking for, and he gave me some options that will fit, got them installed on Saturday....... Friday, this happened. One of the plastic speedbumps in my neighborhood has started to come up from the pavement.

Those center inlet and outlet mufflers are killing your ground clearance. You can see by the way they're mounted that there is a lot more ground clearance to be had than they're giving you. That speed bump is the least of your problems. Have him redo it with offset inlet and outlet mufflers that fit in the stock location so you can get as much ground clearance as possible.
 
it is an offset / center muffler, the killer in this setup is the hangers used, they make the pipe hang lower then I would like. I doubt it was ever designed to run anything but a glasspack
 
I think your best bet would be to either source a new catback if you have the budget for it, or piece one together using aftermarket parts, or just have the exhaust shop fabricate it if they can do it cheaper than the other two options. Either way, you're not really going to get that current setup to give you any reasonable ground clearance. The third option would probably be best if you have a skilled shop that could bend new pipes and weld new hangers to tuck everything as high as possible.
