Im throwing my long term engine build idea out there for some constructive criticism. 1992 hatchback.
So far I have a '95 351w roller block, lightning upper/lower intake.
im slowly piecing this together as I come across used parts. Im hoping to find some decent flowing used aluminum heads this year. They don't come up used in my neck of the woods much. I like the idea of the FRPP aluminum heads just to keep it all Ford, I know they don't flow as well as other heads but neither does the intake I have.
ill go through the bottom end, hoping it just needs a minor hone and cleaning. If so ill add some forged pistons, main girdle/windage tray and arp studs where I can.
top it off with whatever heads I find and my intake. I was thinking of that On3 351w turbo kit would be a nice addition so shooting for a cam that's suitable for a turbo and roller valve train.
I don't care much for the MAF system so one of the megasquirt management systems looks right to me. ill decide on injectors and such when I get to that point and of course the transmission upgrades then as well.
currently the car will be getting 3.55 gears and more suspension work this summer.
in the end this should turn into a streetable fun car to drive... or at least in my head it should...

For a cam I'd run a custom grind setup to optimize the combo. An ots grind from comp cams,Lunati, etc runs 290$ and for 100$ more you can get a billet steel core custom. I used a custom from Bullet cams designed by Mr Freezy. Others have used Ed Curtis at FlowTechInductions.com,Buddy Rawhls, and you can just contact Bullet cams themselves.

As far as your intake goes I'd just sent it to T Moss and have it ported. Costs about 300$ and well worth it. No point in choking the bejesus out of the motor. Don't waste your time on ford alum heads. Buy some AFR or TFS heads. For some used heads check out the classifieds over on The Corral. They come up all the time and you can find some real good deals. Look for at least a 185cc head.

On3 turbo kits are really a crap shot. I personally would look for a better system. Seems at least 1/3 of their customers have serious issues. If you have fab skills you can usually work around their fit and finish issues and getting the system put together. But they also have had issues with their waste gates and even the turbos. Just a fyi on these systems. Many have no serious problems but....buyer beware.
As far as the shortblock goes don't worry about new Pistons if the stockers are in good shape and you're keeping boost/power levels under 600 hp. Also just use some good arp bolts on the rods, mains, etc. You should have the block magnafluxed and hottanked. The 351 roller blocks are known to have cracks in the cam journal area and you should have it checked. This is a regular occurance and happens to maybe 10-25% of all these blocks. Probably due to the fact a lot of these motors were in work/delivery trucks and didn't see the best maintenance/overheating.
