Msd 6al Problems

I've heard of them crapping after only 2 hours of drive time. Warranty covers the repairs but then it breaks again not too long after. Just never know if your going to be the unlucky person that gets a bad unit. I have the 6AL and MSD distributor on my car right now. I haven't fired up my car yet but I will soon. Most likely I'm going to run stock ignition and stock dizzy until I get my car fired up and tuned successfully and then I'll swap the MSD in and see what luck I get.

MSD sells a ton of ignition systems and there's always going to be a failure rate with any product line so who knows what the percentage of bad stuff is that's really out there. Maybe the failure rate of MSD is overhyped, I don't know but they'd be out of business if they were really that bad.
I put my box in the trunk hoping for longer life due to less heat. I did however have an msd ignition coil go bad once after a short period of time.

Most MSD problems are directly related to how they are installed. When MSD says to wire the heavy Red and Black wires directly to the battery, they mean it. I have never had one fail that was hooked up correctly.

Or maybe that's why they filed bankruptcy after outsourcing their work to China years ago.

The modern fox is made in China. Do yall think the electrical stuff inside the Crane box is made in the U S of A? Maybe but I kinda doubt it. Crane probably buys the innards offshore and has the good ole American guys n gals put it together.

Mine was a 70 SS. I sold mine to keep the exwife happy at the time. :(:nonono:She wanted new furniture and a dining room set. At least I had some money left over for the divorce a year later. :O_o:

I'm in that idiot club as welll. My ex whined that she wanted a Mustang, so like a moron I bought an 85 , thew about $15000 in it, and put it in her name. It had a full cage and went 10's. She neverdrove the car while we were married.

Guess who got the car in the divoce............and who sold it for $4000.....................to pay for her divorce lawyer.

Would have been cheaper just to kick myself repeatedly in the nuts until I passed out. The results were the same.
