Build Thread 84ttop: I Suck At Updating This Thread...

So as you all may know, we hit the track down at MIR this past weekend for the NMRA race. The car wasn't quite ready when we took it down there, but we worked on it Friday and Saturday to get it right. This proved to be quite the task but we ended up with one heck of a reward! The first thing that I need to say is that without the help and support of a lot of people, this car would have never gone down the track this weekend. I could fill 2 pages with names and thank you's, its a rather long list. The biggest thanks go out to Kris ( the driver/tuner extraordinaire ) Scott and Kyle for being awesome crew members, Jimmy and Lance at Vortech, @Sharad at UPR, Tommy from Mickey Thompson, Mike Moran from Moran Motorsports and all of the members here for their support as well @srtthis ! It was nice to hear from @TOOLOW91 and @MikeH686 over the weekend.

Ok, now lets get to the meat and potatoes. We get the car to the track and give it a once over, this reveals a loose bolt on the fuel pump drive mandrel. The only way to tighten this one bolt is to remove the entire front end of the car and remove the blower completely. This took a little less than 2 hours to complete, it did draw a rather large crowd to watch us work on the thing which was pretty comical. There is a ton of baller cars at the race and they were looking at my little street car .

This was my buddy Kris getting the blower apart:

We did have a nice little setup at the race on the midway, it was nice having both cars in the same place at the same time too

So we get that dude all tightened up and ready to go. Everything is kosher and it's on to the next step. Lets see if we can get this hoagie to run on alcohol... I pulled the 83 lb injectors out of the motor that we used to break it in (we didn't want to wash the motor down with some gangster injectors and these were sitting in my garage ) and swapped in the 500 lb Billet Atomizers :fap:. Kris wrote a new tune up for the car and we turned the key (ok fine... its a switch, whatever) and the car lit right off. The smell of alcohol was burning our noses and we all had big dumb grins on our faces:rock:. Immediately we hopped in the car to go put some street miles on this thing and grab some data before blast off. We went out on some back roads and cruised for 10 or 12 miles before returning to the track.

Southern MD is pretty much a scene out of deliverance... There is some back woods ish down here for sure:cheers:
This is from our little cruise:

Ok, fine... we did a burn out or two. I'm trying to get the video off my phone and onto the interwebz

So after our little cruise we gave the car a once over and called it good to go. We had to wait until Sunday morning to make our first test hit so we fired up the grill and got to do some real work!
If the rest of you could have only seen the look on @srtthis and @Sharad faces you would know that my BBQ skills were honed to perfection this weekend. I know I know I'm very modest :runaway:lol.
We had some smoked chicken wings/drums as well as bratwurst, hamburgers and hot dogs... Food at the track wouldn't have been complete with out bacon, sausage and eggs for breakfast too.

The car makes a great server as well :win:

Sunday morning couldn't come soon enough! The sun was shining and it was a perfect day! When I say that the track prep was right, this track was unreal Sunday morning. Kris loaded a tune up in the car that we felt was pretty conservative and we went out to make our first hit. Keep in mind that we are pretty brand new to this whole alcohol thing and this is a brand new motor combo that we have never ran before other than a few street miles, no dyno time what so ever. Base fuel pressure for alcohol is a little different to say the least, we had 90 lbs of fuel pressure at idle and a 1:1 rise with boost (ie 30 lbs of boost is 120 lbs of fuel pressure) We were looking for a/f in the 3.5-3.6 area as well, also a whole new game for us. Funny enough, it takes the same O2 sensor:shrug:.

In the lanes and ready to get at it:

Please note: There are no wheelie bars for this car, the classes that we run in do not allow them. This should prepare you for what happened next.

Jason Miller had the track on kill, the UPR suspension was on kill and traction wasn't exactly the issue... There is also a fair amount of rubber added to the back bumper now too
This is just a pic of the photo guy's screen, i'll post the actual pictures when he emails them to me. You can get the idea though...

1.28 60' on the bumper... Because Street Car
The one thing that I can say is that the oil pan savers from UPR did their job! While the exhaust was a little banged up the oil pan is perfect, the skis took a nice hit and aren't quite as shiny anymore but that is fine with me

We gave the car a quick once over and went out for another pass. The tune up looked solid and we only made a few small changes to it. I put 100lbs of ballast in the car and it was time to rock and roll. Kris had no problems putting the car back up on the brake and holding on for dear life. Come to find out, the motor is making a bit more power than we anticipated and quite a bit more boost than we thought as well. After letting go of the brake the tires whet up in a huge puff of white smoke, he pedaled and pedaled trying to get it to go down the track. This is when the entire exhaust, collector included broke off the pass side of the car and he promptly ran it over... He shut the car off and coasted from the 300' mark to a 9.80 at 87 mph. Here is the exhaust that fell off on the track :dammit:

We will call this a whoops...:burnout:

We got to looking at the data and the ramp retard had never triggered, we use this to pull timing to get the power under control on the launch. The gobs of new power and exuberant amount of timing had no hope on this pass, it was a power management fail at its best hahaha. So as we got to looking over all the data I notice the blower making some serious steam... 38.2 lbs of boost to be exact:ack::crazy:
Here is a screen shot from the data log
IMG_20150503_130313.jpg

8,450 Rpms 16.75 degrees of timing and 38.2 lbs of boost.... Holy Street Car Batman! That is gangster

We have our homework to do now that we have some great data! We learned a lot this weekend and it was good to see the chassis taking that power on the first hit! I will also be building a new exhaust system for the car
I should have everything back up and ready to go for testing next week before our first Ultra Street race where we will be strapping the new Billet Ysi on the car

Wicked! :hail:

The exhaust part is a bummer, but I think overall, that was a win! Could've been waaay worse!

What was the ET on the 1.28 pass?

That is awesome!

Joe
The car took a pretty hard hit coming back down from the stratosphere, he clicked it off to make sure that everything was ok. No reason to be a hero on that pass lol. Last year we had a string of 1.20 60's and the car went very consistent 5.0@146 more than a few times in the 1/8th

the chicken is fat boy approved! come YB im bringing chili and maybe some pit beef depending on if i wanna buy a ton of meat
