I'm new here and I have a restored '67 Coupe. My problem is that I can't keep a charge on the battery. Seems that when I run the engine, the battery slowly discharges. I've replaced the alternator three times and the voltage regulator once. I'm at a loss as to where to go from here and would like to figure this out on my own. I'm not adverse to paying somebody to do it but I want to learn as much as I can and I don't have a local mechanic I can talk to. I'm hoping to get some ideas on where to start. I'm sure I haven't provided a clear picture so I'm expecting lots of questions...ask away. Thank you for any and all ideas thrown out!

a battery load test will tell you whether the battery can handle the load or not. it doesnt matter if you have a good charging system, if the battery wont accept a full charge.
also take the whole car down and have the charging system tested while you are at it. that way you will know if the charging system is in fact operating properly or not.
after you have done these tests, and if nothing is found, then you need to start tracing wires, and testing for continuity, and see if something isnt getting through.

A quick test is to pull one of the battery cables while the car is running ,i would pull the ground cable ,If it is charging it will keep running .If it is not charging it will die .It won't tell you what is wrong ,but it will tell you that a charge is not getting through .
