Put In New Aod- Drive Shaft Yoke Won't Slide In All The Way?

I bought a replacement aod transmission from a guy off Craig's list to replace mine that needs a rebuild. I just got it all bolted up to the motor and went to install the drive shaft, and the yoke won't slide all the way in to the tail of the transmission. There's probably a good two inches left of the yoke and this is causing my drive shaft to be too long to bolt up to the rear end. I slid it into the old tranny and it slid right in all the way.

What is my problem? And what can I do to get this thing to work?

Ok so after some research - my new tranny is out of a 85 town car. From what I've read, the output shaft Is 1 inch longer, which makes sense as to why my drive shaft is sticking out so much. So if I were to just have my drive shaft shortened an inch would this take care of my problem? It would still leave the exposed yoke , but that slides in and out while driving anyways, right?

Assuming the U-joints were the same size. Does the CV driveshaft has the balancer on the yolk as well? If not, you might pick up a little driveline vibration?

Barring that, I'm with Mike though....I'd just shorten the end of your stock yolk the required amount. I would absolutely NOT cut the driveshaft.

Dremel? You realize that is a steel yoke..

Take it to a machine shop and do it right or buy the right yoke. You want to maintain at least 3/4" of clearance from the tail shaft of the trans to the back of the yoke.
