Rust Bubble on Hood

I took the car by the dealership and was quite surprised by how well I was treated. The guy who does estimates initially looked at the car, then called the manager over who said, "order him a new hood." No phone calls to ford for authorization, etc. Plan is that they paint the hood once it arrives then call me to bring in the car so they can replace it.

No corrosion on my 2006 Mustang GT but that is here california. There was/is a little orange peel on the hood lip but nothing that cant be rubbed out with a high speed polisher.

My dad has a 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo withi 4000 original miles on it and it has dirt specs in several places that were cleared over at the factory. That is a $130K car and they only built 2-3 thousand units annually of that model.

The quality and workmanship of the mustang and the drivetrain etc is above average for the price. Ford has really stepped up on initial quality. The fact that they are inspecting the returned body parts to determine the cause is noteworthy. They could easily just dispose of them and ignore the problem like they used to with the Ford Pinto.

It comes with an aluminum hood STANDARD. And as you have just experienced, is warrantied for 5 years.

I have had the whining trac-lok and fuel pump swap done under warranty. Nothing else has broken and the car is whisper quiet with 17K so far and some pretty crappy roads.

Also keep in mind that they build A Lot of these cars so there will be lemons produced that were inspected well enough. That is just the averages.

The paint on these cars is great for 30K. If you look at hondas and toyotas, the clearcoat is thinner, scratches easier, and does not shine as well. I have detailed several cars and used the same product.

Hope everything works out for you and if you dealer does well, then be sure to give them a good CSI survey.

Also, the service writer is required to take the time to walk around the vehicle to inspect it BEFORE they work on it for any prior damage or lack there of. Any issues are noted on the R/O. A lot of times the customer and service writer skip this for the sake of time. This is important for your protection and helps to eliminate a controversy.

I'll put this as lightly as i can.

It's only a Ford.

There are many car manufacturers that use better paint, and have higher quality manufacturing.
Honda for 1. my sister has sworn by honda, and i've detailed her cars for years. everyone has been excellent.
But you don't get a 300hp engine, and a sport suspension.

Regaurdless of a $35k price tag. Mustang is the classic example of "poor man go fast" Your not paying for 6coats of paint and 3 coats of clearcoat. Your paying for a strong v8, and the name "Mustang"

i spent $50kcdn on a new STI.. believe me when i say the paint is the worst i have ever seen. the smallest rock Will leave a paint chip down to bare metal.. it gouge's like clay. but flat out the box, the sti is far more capable than the mustang, but the interior feel's alot cheaper. I get what i payed for.

If you wanted a v8, with pure unadulturated quality, then the bmw 08' m6 is the way to go.
But if your a loyal Ford enthusiast, then things like these will have to be dealt with, with the partiality of a "Car" enthusiast.

I thought the BMW M6 has a V-10 not a V-8.

I don't even want to go look at mine now when I get home... especially since I just got it covered with road salt this weekend and it was too cold to wash it off.

And not to split hairs or anything, but if the corrosion is due to iron contamination, then it is rust, even though its on an aluminum part. It is the iron that is rusting, not the aluminum...

I had to chime in here. I have driven fords for thirty years. I am on my seventh mustang. The latest was suppose to be my dream car. I always wanted a Shelby and worked hard and got an 08. I was so happy with it until I noticed blistering on the hood in 2010. The dealership fixed it no problem. Didn't think about it again until about six months ago when I noticed the blistering coming back.i brought it back to the dealership and they said they see this everyday. They said ford needed to do something because the car had less than thirty thousand miles and the car was well kept. After a month of back and forth with ford the dealership informed me that ford refused to do anything for me. I called ford and basically was told to fly a kite. Oh get this. They said they would refund me the repair cost if there ever was an recall. Thanks. So I sucked it up and began looking for shops that would repair it. No one would even touch it. They all recommended that I get a new hood. Not for four grand painted and installed. I was just about to buy a cervins hood when I noticed blistering on my wife's 2013 explorer. We took it in and it was repainted but the body shop told us it will come back. Talk about a kick to the gut. In six months I was buy my daughter her first car. Since she was born I dreamt of passing my love for ford on to her. Now I see that will not happen. We are looking Hondas and even Chevy. Who knows we might be getting three new cars by then. None ford. So sad.

Good job. You've brought a 7 year old thread back from the dead.

I have an 07 with significant bubbling on the hood. I will be buying a Cervini hood within the next few months, & I'd still be replacing it even if it weren't bubbling. The whole car would have to bubble for me to write off stangs indefinitely.

Picture please??? Can you keep the old? Cut a whole and throw a shaker on?
Dang, I didn't realize this was on old thread. I'm usually good at looking at the date stamps.
Sorry folks. Someone was bound to bring it up again anyway! :)
