Does Your Boost Gauge Really Work?

They make new pistons every day, so why worry?

My factory gauge reads vacuum just fine but won't register boost over 1.2 lbs of boost. I've hooked up a mechanical boost gauge and it reads 11 lbs on the nose at WOT but the gauge cluster reads 1.1-1.2 lbs the entire time. It fluctuates the vacuum as you would expect and seems plenty responsive when in vacuum but just wont read the boost. Maybe this is how it is supposed to work, but why call it a boost/vacuum gauge on the cluster? Do the ecoboost cars read boost just fine? Is it a sensor issue with the GT's? Do I need an ecoboost map sensor for it to work? Is it just busted? I haven't the foggiest... Not that it's the end of the world, I would just like to know when/if the belt starts to slip and needs to be replaced. I was out wailing on the car Saturday and just really noticed it.

Ummm, am I to assume that you have added some kind of mechanical boost to your GT?

The GT comes with a vacuum gauge, not a boost gauge. Even if you have added a mechanical boost device that gauge will not show boost.

I have ordered a factory boost gauge from an ecoboost for my Whippled GT for this reason.

Edit: Just noticed the rather large decal on your fender lol. So my assumption is its because your car has a vacuum gauge only, not a boost/vacuum gauge.

Just a little JT trim under the hood ;) I was thinking the same thing until I noticed the instrument panel says boost/vacuum and this is the only reason that I thought it was worth questioning it. Why would it say "boost/vacuum" if it wasn't supposed to read boost?

Yah, agreed. Unfortunately the ecoboost gauge is not available under ford parts yet but I have one on order so when it becomes available I'll get one. Just hope it's not a royal pain to install. Nice picture by the way [emoji106]

Do you have more information on this? Can you post pictures instead of video's please? I can't stream embedded video at work:(

I'm not sure what else you would like to know??

Pop the dash panel off, swap new gauge pack for old gauge pack and your good to go.

I have no gauge pack... there are 3 vents in the dash with mine. This is why I asked for more pictures, the little screen clips make it hard to see what you're working with. There isn't exactly a ton of information on any of this hence the questions.

Then this will not work for you...... Unless you swap the dash panel you have for the PP panel. I would pull yours off and see if you have the wiring harness behind your dash.

This is what the back of the panel looks like. I did not take pictures of the dash with the panel removed, only a quick video which I already posted

This is exactly what I wanted to see, Thanks!
Unfortunately for me, the dash panels are completely different and like you said this won't work. I appreciate the pictures though!

I'd be surprised if you couldn't just swap dash panels and eliminate the center vent for the gauge pack. I'm sure for ford they just pop one or the other in there depending if they are building regular or PP.

The entire swap, dash panels and all looks to cost about 1800 from what I was reading on one of the other forums this morning... For that cost I'll pass lol. I'll keep my eyes open for a pp card in the junk yards to swipe those swap parts from . Our local Copart had one pass through the doors just a few weeks ago that was totaled.

Oh, I understand. I wish you good luck :)
