Seems as MAC is on factory back order I called a few places and everyone is saying weeks before they get a system in...so I do not want to wait... so what other brands could I look at....I have an exhaust shop who could custom make exhaust either Flowmaster....spintech...magnaflow....I want something that's going to sound mean...its going on a 92 gt shorty headers, off road H-pipe..down the road it probably will be supercharged but a low boost kit 5-6 psi.

The Mac and Flowmaster original 40-series sound darn near identical to one and other. Both very muscley and throaty.....and for that matter "droney" on the highway. Be prepared, the interior resonance you'll experience in the 1,800-2,200RPM range will drive you bonkers.

Similar in being throaty and having drone, but they are IMO very distinguishable between each other in sound.

In what way different better?

MAC is my preference; I've had their kit on my car since 2001 (wow!). Flowmaster naturally has plenty (and surely more) fans, so it's all in the ear of the beholder. Pardon the lack of a better description, but I would say the MAC is less "tinny" or "hollow" sounding when you get on it. The MAC seems to hold a bit more of the low-end grumble. Although I have always been able to tell the difference, I'd bet many couldn't. You know how it is when you're picky though, things no one will ever notice stand out like a sore thumb to you.

Im very picky on sound thats why i asked this question...i was also thinking of going spintech mufflers the shop i use can do all the piping custom so no biggie there....just dont know what to do...lol

Unfortunatley, sound is going to be subjective to the user.

One guys "awesome", but be another guys "ho-hum"

Also, take into consideration how the rest of the system is going to change the sound

Adding a particular cat back to an otherwise stock exhaust system is going to sound differently than it will when that same cat back is added to a car with an off road H-pipe, or X-pipe, or long tube headers, or larger diameter exhaust, etc. Engine changes (big heads, cam, power adder, intake, etc) will also change the way an exhaust sounds.

Your best bet it to hit up Youtube and start going through the video's.

I've had Mac, Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Pypes and even went with a set of '05-up stockers on my Fox for a while before I finally found the right ones.

I finally went with the Borla ProXS mufflers in my system after going through hundreds of different sound clips, before finding this video and selling me on them. They sound fantastic with my BBK LT's and off road X-pipe and don't drive you batty with resonance drone on the highway. Couple that with the fact that the price was right and Borla's stainless steel quality construction is second to none and a previous impossible decision for me became crystal clear.

If they're anything like their "Race Pro" muffler, he's gonna hate em when he gets on the throttle anywhere within the vicinity of law enforcement. Liked them at light cruise, and thought the interior drone was minimal, but they were down right vicious at WOT. Raspiest, most obnoxious muffler I've ever run.

Worse than SLP LM1's? That's the worst I've ever ran.

I've never tried the LM1 personally, but from every video I've seen, they sound awful. Can't say it was the loudest, or most obnoxious I've heard, but if you want your car to sound less like a Mustang and more like a mid-90's Chevy P/U truck, this was the exhaust to get. :nonono:
