So How About This Idea...

My car has looked mostly the same since I have owned it.
When purchased it looked exactly like this (other than being a hatch): Not mine, but very similar.

Since it wasn't real, after a repaint, I had the bumper painted red and I left the stripes off.
Also mine wasn't lowered when I got it.

Lately I may be watching too much velocity channel.
The idea of a stock bodied lx again has been intriguing me.
I'd like to have it painted by the end of the year since most of it's life (until last 5 years) it has been outside, rust free well maintained car, but anyone that keeps red outside in the sun and rain knows what it does to the paint.

I'm a big restomod type of guy, so to make it look like a stock lx again has it's appeal. Except I've love to have the 10 holes remade as an 18 with 5 lugs. I hate 15's and am certainly not going back to 4 lug.

How it sits now:

I've been told i'm crazy and that's ok.
And now that I put all the pics on one page, I do feel a little crazier, but the idea of clean stock lx with big 18 inch 10 holes does sound cool.

For the record, this has nothing to do with a "sleeper", I feel like anyone that gets fooled into thinking any fox is slow regardless of how it looks is an idiot, especially since the rear tire type and size usually tells the tale.

While it's unlikely I would go this route, it's still an idea, which may have come from seeing a a stock looking heavily modded grand national with the 18 inch remake of the stock wheels. It was aggressive, restomodded and classy.

Any thoughts?

I know Mavromont had plans of doing a similar 10 hole until they tanked and it never came about.. I've seen renderings and was kinda on the fence about it, even though I love the ten holes. Who do plan on having make them?

Oh, and LX FTW. I can appreciate a GT or Saleen clone, but IMHO nothing beats a clean LX. I've had that opinion since 1987 when the first rubber wrapped GT showed up at my local dealership.

Just so we are clear, it's not a real plan. Just me daydreaming, when you work for yourself and many times by yourself periodically doing easy jobs you don't think have to think about, it's easy for your mind to wander.
As for the wheels, I know some guys who know some guys that will make any wheel you want, at a steep price of course. Places online that will do it too.

That lx is nice, but it sits too high in the front, too much wheel gap and of course those are aftermarket wheels.

I wouldn't change if I owned your car. I do believe that we get "tired?" Of looking at our own cars after awhile. I do. Maybe you just need a wheel change to "spice" it up. If I were to spend some serious money on wheels I would go the True Forged route. While in theory I like the idea of 18" 10 holers I wouldn't spend the cash.

I'm a fan of newer body style wheels on the older models to "update" the look but still maintain the body style you want. I don't think a retro 10 hole wheel would be cool, even in an 18. The 17 inch Pony R wheels were ok, but still date the car too much IMHO. Just as well run some chees graders at the same time. :)

I'm pretty picky with wheels. Always loved the set I have, probably would be the hardest change for me. Keep in mind rarely do I sell something, so I would never do anything that can't be undone, easily.
I also believe you keep parts in the same family, so saleen kit, saleen wheels.
Just like a cobra kit should have some type of cobra wheels.

Yet you have a cobra engine with Saleen cosmetics? With that kind of logic you should have termi wheels and a 93 cobra spoiler and body kit. Don't be afraid of change. I think that car would look great as an LX.. maybe not with the 10 hole wheels though. Look up the renderings man, they looked odd. Squeak's got a good point about updating the wheels, that always works well, but I've also seen a few that were completely stock except lowered with high end aftermarket wheels like BBS or the like that were just killer. Give your idea some more thought. I think it's worth considering. Maybe with a few tweaks, but I like it.

I agree w/ The Squeak. The ten hole wheel always date the car, and seriously take away from (as opposed to what a later model/style wheel will lend to) the overall aesthetic of the car.

Well like I said I wouldn't change it. Lol. Looks pretty good to me as is. I do not exactly share the same idea on "theme" specific wheels but understand the logic/taste. I do believe the aero nose cars look the best with body color side moldings and either the LX/cobra/saleen rear bumber. I do like a stock example with 10 holers but I agree with the above about them looking dated.

Well, you can only see the cobra engine when the hood is open and I make my best attempt to only drive the car with it closed. But I mean it as far as visuals go.
And if I only had saleen engine mods, I pretty much would only have an intake, lol. They didn't really use too much else that was useful and their suspension parts are rare and mediocre.

Just to be sure, you guys do know the whole thing is sorta a fantasy idea, right? It's far too late for this car to ever be stock again and worst of all i'd have to move the heat exchanger.

 @ Saleen/engine explanation...

Why just fantasize about making your car look better? If you just come out and say it's too much work, I might buy that.. But every Mustang deserves to live it's life without rubber prosthetics..(body kits)

Speaking of looking dated.. You don't see modern cars with big chunks of polyurethane screwed to the sides do you? This will probably piss off some folks here, but it's only personal preference... along with observation.

You think I shy away from work? In the 22 years I've owned with car, that may be the first time I've heard that.
I never said better, more along the lines of different.
As for chunks of urethane, could it possibly be that you have never seen a saleen kit in person? Flow's pretty well, when done right it looks factory installed.
If you think the saleen kit looks chunky, what exactly do you think of a gt? Kinda fits between a gt and lx.
I like all foxes, 4 eyes, gt's, lx's, notches, saleens, cobras.
Honestly, I wish I had the room and finances to own one of each.
