Ok, it's a Ford, but not a Mustang. My new to me DD, a 2009 F150. I have owned it for 6 days and the drivers side window has started acting up. I can roll it down without any problems, but it stops when I roll it up. If I let it sit for a few minutes, I can continue to roll it up. It seems to only want to roll up for a few seconds without dying.

I pulled the interior door skin and removed the switch and motor. I get 12.2X Volta in both directions with the switch, but this is without any load placed on it.

When detached, the motor spins freely in both directions when 12v is applied. I tried using a rag and grabbing the teeth on the motor to induce a Drag, but th e motor never stops turning.

The regulator is in good shape. Does this sound like a switch, or a motor problem? My next thought is to power up the motor with it installed and see what happens. Ideas?

How is the window speed when going up relative to the other window? If it is slower the cause could be wear in the felt channel guides. Modern motors use a current limiting biscuit style resistor in the motor. If there is any appreciable drag on the window it acts sort of like a circuit breaker. You can try some teflon spray lube in the felts. Also observe if the glass is rocking when changing directions, which also points to guide wear. Use only teflon spray as other lubes will attract dirt and get gummed up which makes the problem worse.
 
Window speed seems mostly normal, it slows right before it stops.

I can grab the window and try to pull it up while pushing the button, and it won't budge, so I don't think it is jamming on the felt.

It sounds like there is something getting in the way of the glass that is increasing resistance at which point the motor stops.

This may or may not apply but my 2013 Focus had an issue a few months ago where the rear passenger side window would stop when I tried to close it and it would automatically open again. After popping the panel off and inspecting everything I found a small pebble had lodged itself in the felt channel which I assume was triggering a safety feature which opens the window if anything is obstructing it. So for example you can't close the window with someone's arm in it. I only discovered the pebble because I tried to open and close the window several times and the window finally got past it and I could hear it rubbing against the glass. I was able pull the pebble out and everything was fine again.

I'm not sure how the glass is mounted in your particular door but the glass in my Focus was mounted to a single point (it was a rear passenger window). So I could rock the glass a bit side to side but I could not move it up and down. So I would not try to force the window up or down as you may break it more.
 
If I get in thentruck, I can roll the glass down and back up again without problem. But If I try to do it twice in a row, it will stop. I do not believe there is an obstruction, I believe the motor is over heated and just can't handle it anymore.

I did bypass the switch yesterday and applied 12v directly to the motor. I got the same results, so I believe the switch is fine. I ordered a new motor for it, so we will see shortly.
