Hello all. I desperately need some help with getting a Hurst shifter. I have a 2004 40th anniversary GT and already dead set on getting the Hurst billet pro shifter for the tr3650.

I am absolutely disgusted by the stock shifter boot on our cars... It is so unnecessarily big and ugly. I love the old school look like this. The rubber pleaded boot, but CANNOT FIND ONE!!! Does anybody know where to get a boot that will match the weird oval shaped hole we have?!?

P.s. I am getting a chrome hurst stick along with the shifter and like the low profile boot like the picture so i can see the stick. Thank you all!!!

You might be able to find a knock-off shift boot to fit your application off of Ebay, but that's a crap shoot at best. Pepboys seem to have an assortment of aftermarket shift-boots. When my short-throw shifter was installed; the little metal ring had to be removed for the boot to be reused.

I have/had a rectangular Hurst boot.

I have an extra surround piece and recently switched back to stock type boot folded over and zip tied to the shifter handle. It's not perfect, but it works better than the rectangular boot.

Very, very nice setup. I really appreciate the info very much! did you have to cut out the oval part at all to fit the rectangle in? also you said the stock works better than the rectangle, how is that so? do you have trouble getting into gear or anything? just curious. Thank you again for all the info! I just like the cleaner look of the pleaded boot like in you picture. it looks as if you might be able to just adhere the rubber boot rim to the underside of the oval well like the original boot is placed, to give it a cleaner look and keep the ring on top.

like this pic I found. def worth checking into. Thank you again!

I cut up a bezel to fit the rectangular boot. The problem is the pivot point for the shifter is so much lower than the base of the boot there isn't enough movement/flex in the boot to work well in this application. In the picture you can see the boot is almost completely compressed at the rear and it has to compress a lot more when in 2nd or 4th gear. Those boots are really designed to be mounted with the shifter mechanism up inside them, rather than below them. I tried all sorts of stuff to keep the boots from tearing and/or letting the shifter handle move like wants to, but nothing really worked very well...but it looks pretty cool :)

Really? well now that I look at it, It does seem to make sense. having not a lot of room to move. Thank you so much for the info. I'm still trying to figure out all parts I need before I purchase the wrong thing. Looks like I still have a lot of searching to do to find the right boot.... Maybe some universal one might work alright if I can find one that fits. I really dig the setup though. Thank you again for all the info from someone who took one for the team! :flag:
