Hi all, just got my 6th Mustang (not all at once, haha) - only have two currently.

a 2004 GT coupe 5speed.

Upon acceleration, it has a pretty loud whine that seems to go with the rpm of the engine, similar to what a blower would do, cept I don't have one, haha. - it stops when I push in the clutch and only does it on acceleration, not deceleration... really sounds like its coming from the front of the car, doesn't sound like a rear end...

I tried to take a video, but the audio wasn't good enough to pick up the whine, will try again.

it also makes an interesting noise when idling in neutral with the clutch out... stops when pushing in the clutch... (but this noise is very quiet and wouldn't pick up on a video at all)

What types of things am I looking at? transmission replacement?
thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Sounds like your throw out bearing is on it's way out. The good news is that it's very expensive to replace. The bad news is that you need to pull the transmission in order to do so.

hmmm ok, that could make that kinda whine?

so pulling the transmission, is it just a complete nightmare on these cars, or not horrible? - I'm used to a Corvette I had where everything was a nightmare.

pulling the transmission is easy. just need jackstands and basic tools.

next time its making the whine, lightly push on the clutch and see if it goes away. pretty much sure its the TO bearing if thats the case.

nothing that's super difficult to get to on these cars or anything huh?

when I push the clutch in, the noise goes completely away.

Is it the stock clutch?

as far as I know everything is completely stock.

I tried taking a video of the sound, but the microphone didn't really pick up the higher frequency of the whine...
it's pretty loud. - loud enough that people in a parking lot turn to look.

it makes some strange type noise with the clutch NOT pushed in, in neutral. and whines loud in every gear, just becomes less noticeable in higher gears...

I really need to get a handle on what this is, cause I know its gonna have a problem soon! it's quite a loud noise.

CAN a clutch/ TOB make a whine, or would it be more likely in the transmission?

Does it whine whether or not the clutch is being pushed in, and does it change pitch while the clutch is being pushed in. The Throw Out Bearing is a weak point on the these transmissions.

If it wines while in neutral then its not the transmission. Yes, the throw-out bearing whines while in neutral.

it doesn't really whine in neutral, just makes some interesting noise.... cant even really describe it, but when I push in the clutch, it stops completely.

and when driving, it whines really loud through acceleration in each gear, but stops immediately if I push in the clutch.

It sounds like Kevlar synchros to me. If I'm right, it's 100% normal. If the transmission has ever been rebuilt (by any kind of a motor head at all) then they are very likely Kevlar.

hmmmm the car has 80k, I doubt it's been rebuilt? - I mean it's real loud, like people in parking lots turn and look, I wish I could jsut pretend its a blower, hahahaha but I know something is wrong, my other 99GT I have currently has 128,000 miles, and it doesnt make a peep like that.

if is was that, what would be involved to fix it?

it sorta does LOL - I just wanna know what I have to do. If I have to replace transmission, so be it, I was thinking it was more the transmission...
I just need to know if that's definitely the case so I can just buy a new one. and get the project under way. :)
It is defiantly the transmission brother..... I took mine apart and found all kinds of funky wear patterns. Good news is that its not like the 3650 is a 4,000$ transmission.
