Pb At Track Last Night

Thanks for the feedback, bro. Nice work! The engine is definitely working at the 95, almost 96mph trap speed is hauling ass for sure. That should put you through the 1/4 traps at ~120mph! 11s? ha! Your car is going mid-11s as it sits! That race must've been fun. He murdered you from the tree by over a second, and you still ran him down! I'll bet that was fun! Yeah, I like the horn switch. I wonder what I'd need to do to get it to work on one side while still having a usable horn with the other switch.
I'm curious to your predictions of mid 11's -120mph. From my expieriences those times are closer to low 12's-high 11's and a trap speed 115-118mph

I think he was basing it off the timeslip's mph. Yeah, if I could run 95+ in the 1/8th, I would agree to close to 120 in the 1/4. But like stated, I know my car traps around 90-91 mph in the 1/8th on a good run. I expect about 115 in the 1/4 once I make it to a 1/4 track with new upgrades.

Fwiw, I picked up almost 5mph in the 1/8 with the heads. I trapped 108.25 with the old heads, so I think a 7 mph increase is what I will see.

That's awesome! Means you picked up at least 50hp. Congrats!

Congratulations man! You should be right on par with the 11 second pass. My car runs 7.70s which is 11.7 in the quarter at 119. What is the suspension setup? The 60 foot isn't doing you any favors to be honest.

You are absolutely right about the 60ft, that is where all my potential lies. I have tinkered around a little with suspension setups, but honestly I just don't know how to make it right. I have talked to a local speed shop guy who said he would plot my suspension and set it up for me, again, it's all about money, time and priorities.

Upr stuff up front with 175 coil overs and 10 way strange shocks, no sway bar. Rear is bbk boxed lowers with poly bushings (on car when I bought it) and I recently added the baseline relocated uppers. Stock springs cut one coil and strange 10 ways.

I think I honestly have most the right parts, I just need to get them setup right and work on the driver mod.

For the record, the 1.822 60ft from Friday night is my best, and that was on a no prep surface. I think at commerce or brainard it would have been easily a low 1.7x 60ft.

Joe

I honestly question the BBK boxed lowers. I used to have a similar style Steeda setup up and cut 1.7 60s. Switched over to UPR Pro Series ( I think). Went 1.6s' first pass out, unfortunately, the car blew a head gasket so that was it. You have tons of potential for sure. All in the set up, may @Sharad can help give a few pointers. I don't know about adjustable shocks.

I haven't run mine at the track with the adjustable shocks yet myself. We have very similar suspension pieces. I was hoping for 1.6's but the way it looks that's going to take some trial and error. My old car would pull 1.7's with stock frontend and only southside lowers in the rear(m&h bias plys). My 86 has only gone 1.8's once(old setup) and a bunch of 1.9-2.0's with Nitto drag radials(they suck) and with an Eibach pro kit suspension. Have you tried higher launch rpms? 35-4k was perfect for my old car with nitrous(any more blew the tires off or bogged bad) I would think your car has more power than my old setup. It would run 12.00's-12.20's@116/117mph. The 86's best was a 12.34@117mph and a bunch of 12.4-12.50's(never ran a good tire on this car) love the 2 step idea btw.

In which case, you'll still be no problem in the 11s with good traction.

Honestly, I'm not tooting my own horn when I say that I'm impressed with Black Jack's traction. After all, I didn't put the suspension together. On stock-sized 225/55/16 Goodyear Eagle GTs, it went a 1.83 60'. I can't imagine how it would run on a good drag radial or slick. I don't want to blow my T5 up to find out, either. Anyway, take a look at Black Jack's simple set up here: Fox - New Hatchback | Mustang Forums at StangNet

I love that you named your car;) I think mine should be called "my 3rd kid" all it does is cost me money, makes me worry, frustrates me and is never available. :O_o: I am simply amazed with that 60ft time on radials. Well done sir!

LOL. Since they are nearly identical '91 LX Hatchbacks with a sunroof, it got confusing to friends and family when I described the cars to them. I had to say, "the one with the turbo," or "the other one that I got more recently." The names work more easily.

Black Jack was easy, because my family was on a bit of a Black Jack kick at the time. Man o' War was a little different. The name might confuse hard core fox body guys, because it has nothing to do with the block, which is a Dart Iron Eagle, not a World Products "Man o' War." The name comes from a discussion with my mom and step father who love horses. I asked for some names of famous black horses from history. "Bucephalus" was the first suggestion, because that was the name of Alexander The Great's famous black horse. I just rolled with laughter from that suggestion! Can you imagine? Perhaps, just maybe, I'll name some future black mustang that.

Anyway, Jim's second suggestion was Man o' War, which is perhaps the second most famous race horse, following Secretariat. I was like, "Oh wow! Man o' War was black?!" Jim thought so, but mom rolled with laughter this time. It turns out that Man o' War was a chestnut, but since there were only black and white photos of him, Jim had always assumed he was black. So, considering the story, I had to go with it!

I don't think it'll take too much tweaking to get into the low 1.6x 60' range, especially with good track prep. im running fairly consistent low 1.7 to high 1.6 on a similar setup except no tubular stuff up front. I launch mine at 5-6k though, only way i can keep it from bogging. Yours has more power, and should get out of the hole alot better.

I'm surprised it takes so much RPM to go low 1.7s to high 1.6s. You're running similar trap speeds, so probably similar power to weight, and I'm launching off of idle to go low 1.8s. We also have the same rear gear.

I know the track prep doesn't help, but I was launching at 3500 with wheels spin....I know something isn't ideal. I wish I had played with shock settings more, but I may tackle that next go around.

I never said I was doing things right, but my data says it seems to work best dumping the clutch the way i do. I'm sure with a little more clutch finesse it could be better. The thing hits hard, pops the front up pretty good (no air) and has just a touch of spin.

Joe, it's definitely worth the time to play with the shock settings, i went from a best pass of 12.73 (mid 1.7) to a 12.64 (mid 1.6) just going up 2 settings on the back, and down two in the front. Those passes were an hour apart, and then the air got super soupy and did another mid/high 1.6 (low 12.7 at the stripe). It took about a dozen tries, and logging my results to track that down (not to mention the head banging and cussing ).

Ease out on the clutch. You literally want to roll out and then plant. At least this works very well for me. Consistent 1.6x's on a Mickey Thompson. 2K rpms and slip the clutch. Mine has way more in it, just don't want to break the tranny or rearend.

I don't know. I guess it's just interesting that our launch techniques and 60' times are so different, but our ETs and Trap Speeds are so close. I went a 1.83 60' with a [email protected] mph. Maybe power shifting is what brings my ET back down to where yours is. I'd launch higher like you if I could. My shocks are not adjustable, though. The only way I could get the tires to work was launching off of idle.
