Progress Thread New To Me 96 Gt And A Couple Of Questions

Thanks... Yeah when I was younger I used to want all my cars to be nice as well. But the problem with that is that its just to easy to look at a car and not see the car for what it will be but instead see all the money and work its going to take to make it that way and get discouraged. OR when you want to do things "RIGHT" and you end up staring at a bunch of expensive parts that you'll buy "ONE DAY" and nothing ever gets done. Iv found I have more fun if iv got some random POS with no real expectations of making it nice because everything you do is making the car better every time you fix or replace something broken its a win. Plus I grew up around a lot of old school car guys/racers and there train of thought was "If your trying to build a fast car then why the hell would you waste money on anything that doesn't make it go fast" its taken a lot of years for that to finally sink in and there right paint should be an after thought for when every thing else is done why spent $4k on paint and another $1k on shiny rims when I could of bought forged internals and a supercharger with that money? :D

Got some more primer today i'm going to try and knock off the roof and rear quarters this weekend... Clearly I started with the roof...

No point painting a cracked rear bumper but the rear of the car looks better were supposed to get some rain here soon so can't do any more for now

If you can't tell from the wing and llicense plate trim i'm wanting to go a little Mach1ish with the car

She runs good always did you just wouldn't think it would judging by looks alone... Just some fuel issues early on but all that was sorted some time back... The only other issue are the trans likes to grind 5th from time to time... Shes a trooper alright :nice:

I am however reconsidering buying the SCT tuner. The car has never fallen on its face with the boltons and stock ecu like some people have said. But iv noticed that the car is faster right after unhooking the battery and resetting the ecu and will slowdown over about a weeks time. My only conclusion to this is that the ecu must have preset values/goals its trying to hit. So just to satisfy my own curiosity I mite just go ahead and get the tuner to play with i'm going to need it anyway to program the new gears in when I get them and I can turn off the rear o2 sensors witch should help a bunch...

SO went to the local seed shop today to order the SCT tuner for the turd and when I walked out to start it and to go to work it would seem the voltage regulator has about had it  and the battery was about dead there's a refurbished label on the alternator so guessing crap parts refurbished parts just never last LOL

Picked up the SCT X4 tuner #SCL-7015SR I ordered today and damn right I went straight for the race tune

Kinda P!$$ed me off a little because every time I tried to load the tune it kept saying my battery was to low??? the volt meter said 12.68v so not low. I tried hooking up a battery charger and still to low I ended up having to go buy new battery terminals before it would take the tune LOL Just got to love her for it LOL

Small update

Iv been driving around with the SCT race tune for a little over a week now and I really like it. She's no rocket ship but the cars "Fun to drive factor" has gone way up I find i'm having to watch myself because i'm wanting to get into the throttle more. Sins turning off the rear o2's it lost the exhaust cackle I'v come to love and she's picked up a slight miss at idle but other wise i'm happy with it...

So guess tomorrows race day....and like a Caption touring his ship before a unwinnable battle I find myself cleaning and inspecting my ship.

I knew they were bad witch is why I never messed with them but damn and I really can't justify putting them back on... All that just so someone could install some cheap ass speakers...

Race day 8/28/2015 Me and a buddy of mine took turns running the car
11207353_1050588541648020_2593772706422597808_n.jpg

I know the car has a mid-14 sec pass in her as she sits. But sadly the best I could do was a 15.02 we tried getting her off the line many different way but she just spins off the line. Ill sum it up for now to hard tires, 250,000 mile stock suspension, and a crappy driver. LOL But I don't thick she did to bad all things considering I mean she did drive home at the end of the night.

Removed the front pony emblem for a cleaner look... Knowing what most people seem to think about the car they will probably think it got broke off LOL

Finally got my @$$ in gear and replaced the lines running to the carbon canister... That should knock off the last code and probably fixed some vacuum leaks...

I also took the SCT tuner back out and turned off the EGR valve when I first did the tune I just let it be and I also richened it up by 2% to account for some of the extra air flow

Kind of a half win... A few hours ago a buddy called me up telling me he just picked up an 03 Crown Vic and was going to be parting it out and wanted to know if I wanted anything... "Hell yeah" I replied and ran over to snag the heads and intake so I could PI swap my Mustang... Unfortunately when I got there it turned out to be a 99 BUT still got a few nice to have parts...

For 100 buck I got
4 hole injectors
Newer PI style Alt.and bracket
Newer style NPI intake that uses the PI Alt. and bracket
Complete engine harness with coil packs
and some other odds and ends I don't really need

I'm pretty sure the guy that had my car before me had the intake off and after finding missing gaskets and missing bolts among other things. I have ZERO% confidants that he put it back together right and I'm pretty sure the intake sucks in air from around the intake gaskets under acceleration I just haven't had a good enough reason to pull the intake and check till now. The intake on it also has a broken bolt for the Alt. bracket witch is missing so I mite not be upgrading to a PI just yet but thing will be a lot nicer under the hood...

I feel kinda foolish after doing all this work the new Alt. witch started strong at 14v dropped down to just enough volts to trigger the battery dash light at the same time the car started to run ruff I assumed the 2 problems were one in the same and just figured the Alt. just wasn't putting out a nuff juice to power the coils.... Well you know that old saying "Assumption is the mother of all f**k ups" well I assumed wrong I decided to do a compression check on the motor and turns out 2 of the spark plug wires has popped off the plugs... :bang: anyway did the compression check all is good got the damn wires on and runs like a champ....

Thanks for sharing man, I like reading your thread. Sometimes replacing old worn out parts is more rewarding than adding more power... I mean its never bad to add power but a car that feels solid definitely is more important to me. I'm glad you saved this car, a lot of guys would have written it off.
