Fuel Aeromotive Fuel Pump Going Bad?

Over this summer I have noticed that my aeromotive a1000 fuel pump primes like normal when the car is cold, but now it's making a horrible priming noise and while driving it just doesn't sound like it used to. Plus after some driving, I shut off the car, and to start it again it sounds horrific. Now lately if I get on the pedal it cuts out like there's no fuel. The Fuel pressure stays at 40-42psi. The car is a 1995 Ford Cobra Mustang 331, vortech v-1 supercharger, 42lbs injectors, pro-m maf built for the car, so on and so on.
Again the pumps sound keeps getting harsher and harsher. Even my wife knows something is wrong and she doesn't know anything about cars.

The a1000's an external fuel pump right? I imagine it would be pretty easy to get under the car and take a listen / feel for what happens when it's primed. It could be noisier due to mounting issues, or as you mention its worn out. If the fuel pressure is staying tight, then I'd be surprised if your cutting out is due to the fuel pump, but who knows you're probably not watching the pressure every second. Changing fuel filter is the first / easier / cheaper step, after that, well it sounds like you already know what to do...

I can only watch the fuel pressure at idle and manually reving it by hand. I'll start with filters, clean maf, check wiring, etc. I want to take it to the local shop to get a tune for it. I bought the car with all of the work done so still discovering what has been done. Money was no object to the previsit owner. No holding back on parts. Lol

For sure, not taking it to a tuner until this hiccup is fixed, probably this spring. Good thing is the weather has turned and I will probably put her away for the winter, but sadly my garage is not heated. Lol
The car is my first true drag car and I kind of wish I would have stuck with a basic naturally aspirated 5.0 I'm jealous of my buddies that open their hoods and all you see is a 302 with some spark plug wires. I open my hood and the bay is stuffed full of stuff. Lol

I hear you, I run a turbo and over time it's probably been less reliable than it was in stock form, but it's also 20 years old now. I also wonder if I should have left well-enough alone. But then I realize in stock form we had 225hp on a good day, which was a big deal in 1995, but which in 2015 is Camry-level power. I imagine the grin on your face when you spin the tires at full boost will wipe away the memories of some small technical challenges, it always does mine, especially when I realize how much a new car with 400hp goes for (and we still out-torque them). I hate this time of year too, thinking about putting mine up for winter as well into my also un-heated garage. By January I'll start ordering parts for next year's enhancements as I do every year, then end up working in the cold because I get impatient waiting for Spring. :)
