Progress Thread My Kenne Bell Twin Screw'd Foxbody thread, (new addition to the family)

I like lol. The 175's will ride nice and give you some weight transfer if you do take it to the strip. Not perfect for hard cornering but I think you'll like them. It's nice to be able to set your ride height and if you went with adj struts/shocks, adjusting their stiffness also. I actually set my settings right in the middle and dropped the front as far as I could to start with. I am going to raise the front slightly so I can even out the stance better. My rear springs did settle a little more and are close to the previous ride height with the Eibachs. I went with 150# springs in front and they ride nice. Probably a little too soft for some people but I like them.

I might catch some flak for going with the Illumina's but I have a performance street oriented vehicle. Softer spring with adjustable shock so I can hopefully stiffen it up a little more for some spirited cornering here and there. Hopefully it works out if it doesn't then I'll change out the struts, no biggie.

It was a nice sunny but cold (28*) day so I had to take it for a spin one last time before going under the knife.

My Maximum Motorsports c/o kit arrives today. I can't explain why I suddenly have an uncontrollable urge to purchase an uber-expensive hand woven pretentious hat.

Questions for you guys about IRS.
To make the exhaust work can I use my current Flowmaster American Thunder cat back with LX SS pipes and just rebend/reroute the exhaust from the mufflers to the tips? Or do I need to get new shorter mufflers, h-pipe, and different tips and custom route everything? I have BBK long tube headers, BBK o/r H pipe, flowmaster cat back LX style.

Also, I'm thinking about the MM grip package. Thoughts on Basic vs. Street?
IRS Rear Grip Package - "The Basics", 1999-04 Cobra
IRS Rear Grip Package - Street, 1999-04 Cobra

Is there a brake line kit you can buy to adapt the car or just flare it and wing it as I go?

Thanks in advance

On cobras the inlet and outlet are offset to the same side of the muffler. I run glass packs on mine but will be switching to cobra 40 series mufflers. I've seen a couple people run regular fox mufflers but the outlet runs straight into the front of the rear subframe.

Ok, so I'd actually purchase mufflers for a 99'-04' Cobra in order to get the correct muffler offset?

Yes...I haven't been able to find the correct offset any other way. I've heard of people using center in and out mufflers and kind of putting them at an angle to avoid the driveshaft, but I personally don't like the idea.

I used a 99-04 cobra cat back on mine as the Fox cat back doesn't fit for reasons mentioned earlier. On the passenger side flow tube in front of the muffler I had to have 3/4 of an inch removed from it after it attaches to the H pipe as it was too long and hitting the subframe.

As for the MM Kit I'd go with the street unit if possible, or all poly bushings like I did. The MM Delrin units in there are better but far more expensive... I did all my bushings for under $175 I think. As for the brake lines, I'm pretty sure the part numbers you'll need are posted on page 1 of my build thread and you'll also want to go ahead and get the MM braided rear brake lines.

Thanks guys, great info! I just picked up the IRS, it's sitting in the back of my truck. Now I need to find me some 94-95 spindles and accumulate the pieces necessary for the swap. This might be next winter or maybe I'll sell my 306 HCI motor and my notch to fund the swap plus all new wheels this winter

If you haven't already 5 lug swapped, don't cheap out now, just get the Cobra fronts, new master cylinder (replace booster while there... because fox mustang), 94/95 front spindles, don't put coil overs on till you check/replace worn bushings and ball joints as it's better to do it once. You'll also need the MM kit for swapping the master cylinder from 3-2 port as well as the rear prop valve from them. Wheels will be tricky, but do-able, most S197 factory wheels will fit the rear, but way to tucked in the front... remember you need a 9" wheel with a front offset of around +30-35 with those spindles and a rear around +45 or 6.75" BS with an IRS in a Fox. Go ahead and get the low profile subframe mounting bolts for the IRS from MM if you want a 275 tire in the rear.

For Cobra front brakes up front do I just go to the local parts store and order 95' Cobra front calipers and rotors?

The part stores in my area only carry one side...can't remember if its the passenger or drivers side...they can't even order the other side.smh
