Progress Thread My Kenne Bell Twin Screw'd Foxbody thread, (new addition to the family)

Is there a better year than others for Cobra rotors & calipers? I'd like the 13" rotors (not sure if all Cobras came with 13" or not).
For Cobra front brakes up front do I just go to the local parts store and order 95' Cobra front calipers and rotors?

Honestly It'll end up costing about the same to piece it together from a parts house without a proper core if you can even find them with the brackets as well (replacement calipers usually don't come with brackets). When I did mine I kept an eye on the suspension/brakes classifieds on corral.net and found a set or calipers with brackets and pads for a great price. I bought new 13" rotors (that's what you need) from Autozone as they were cheap. You could also look into the LMR kits if you want red or black calipers. You will also need the cobra master cylinder (do the booster now while your in there), new fox-->SN95 front brake lines/adaptors, rear prop valve delete and new manually adjusted rear prop valve. You will also need the front 94/95 spindles when you do this if you don't already have them.

I think I remember reading that @madmike1157 ordered a whole Cobra brake setup from rock auto a while back, may be worth checking with them, pretty sure you can use your fox calipers(or any old calipers laying around lol.) for the cores
I just checked Rockauto and their Cobra calipers + brackets are $163 each and $105 of that is a core charge that I'd have to eat because their core policy is that they get the same make and model caliper in return. I'm not so picky that I need "Cobra" lettering on my calipers. Later this week I'll pull the trigger on some 94-95 spindles and hubs and a caliper/rotor/s.s. line package.

What's really eating me is pulling the trigger on a MM Kmember + a-arms. That's a dent in the budget for sure. I need more over time!!

So build goals always seem to change from time to time and a budget can grow, a good deal presents itself or "life happens". With the IRS/5 lug swap being a spendy mod I'm thinking about selling my HCI engine and notch to fund it. The Notch was for sale anyway but I was going to keep the engine and put it in my hatch. I'm thinking a healthy stock motor with my bolt ons and 3.73 gears with an IRS swapped Hatch on coil overs on all 4 corners should be an ideal build and hold value pretty well and will perform, ride, and handle very well for me.

Cobra IRS + 5lug swap financials
used Cobra IRS purchase $700 (already have)
MM IRS grip "street" package $813
new cobra rear rotors & pads +/-$100
MM IRS s.s. brake line package $130
IRS cat back $???
94/95 Spindles + hubs $200
13" cobra rotors/calipers/brackets/s.s.lines $700 (LMR)
MM K member + a-arms $920 (or maybe a UPR for a few hundred less??)
MM coil overs front $700 (already have)
MM coil overs rear $700
re-gear IRS $???

total cost so far without wheels, MC, booster, brake line hardware etc $4,963  :puke:

Ouch! Are you really into carving corners/twisty roads etc? If not why such an extreme option? I.E. Cobra IRS/MM package? If you are and want to build the car towards that goal, then go for it! I will say that eventually you will want more power and may "need" your already existing h/c/i etc. Maybe hold onto said parts and/or install them. Then tackle the rest? Sell the notch(minus the motor?) and see where you're at? Just asking/thinking out loud.

I could live without the MM K member and a-arms and just rock the stock K. This is purely a street performance oriented car. It will never see a drag strip. Just fun spirited street driving. The ride quality of my car sucks and IRS w/ coil overs I think is the cure and gives a Fox 5.0 a killer stance.

Mine is stock K for now. Full MM Koni coil overs all around. I did poly bushings in all control arms front and rear to save cost, and because street car. I stayed with 3.55 gears, and picked up a used flow master catback. Used front cobra brakes up front with new rotors and pads. You don't need to do it all at once, but it's certainly easier to do bushings before you install the first time so you don't have to take it back out. If you want different gear ratios, do that now as it's impossible to install without taking it all apart later.

I'm very happy with mine, but make sure you have everything before installing anything as it will be nice to drive it till you have everything you need. Don't go UPR to save a few bucks as you're clearly not building a drag car.

I'll see how funds go as I accrue parts over time. The install for this may be a next winter a year from now. Mean while I have plenty to do with rebuilding the IRS, painting it, research, and shopping around for all the parts.

By the way, I appreciate all of the advice.

Cool, mine weren't bad and Jack walked me through every aspect of my build over several in-depth conversations- All I can say is first class group of guys there! What I got with MM on the street was way more than I even hoped for. Absolutely call and review your plans with them

This! I cannot stress this enough. While what you're building sounds very much like mine your goals might be just different enough to warrant a different choice. Hell, even the wheel and tire sizes affect what suggestions they will make. Jack is outstanding to work with and REALLY knows his stuff.

Mine took me about 1.5 years because of life, kids, money, etc... I bought mine on a whim cause I needed new gears, shocks, control arms, etc in my old 8.8 and I always wanted an IRS so when I saw it pop up for $500 I jumped on it without really having a plan. Then I was stuck trying to sell my old parts to recoup that cost as it wasn't budgeted for car parts and I told the wife I was only loaning myself the money for a short time. I was going to clean and paint mine like what @RacEoHolic330 did on his but then I decided just to clean it and install it since the underside of my car was not pretty at all anyways and I just wanted to drive the damn thing. Now I'm collecting parts for my HCI swap but I won't even begin that till I have everything I think I'll need plus a few hundred for surprises in the spring. In the mean time I'll just drive it with an engine that cannot really breathe for crap over 4k RPM.

Everything I read on the MM site suggests emailing which I think it took them nearly 3 weeks to get back to me. They seem to not like phone calls (see their "contact us" section) at all which is kind of lame. I will however call them and talk to them. I ordered my MM coil overs after the chance to get this IRS slipped through my fingers the first time so I ordered assuming I was staying 4 lug for a while. I think I will have to change out my springs to 14" since clearing my existing wheels will not be an issue going forward. Hopefully the Tokico Illumina's will be okay as well. I will call MM today.

@bird_dog0347

Where did you find your wheels? It's a headache shopping for custom wheels online.

I got lucky and found them locally on craigslist. I too would rather have some different ones but they are hard to find by size the way we would need them that would look good on the fox. I've been thinking about some enkie's though as they list them by sizes.

Wow you guys were right. First time I called Maximum Motorsports they picked up the phone and an HOUR later I am very well informed. They talked me out of a Kmember kit and also said I don't really need rear coil overs unless I really just wanted to spend the money. You know people are being honest when they try to talk you out of buying some of their products.

Agreed

Oh yeah, they also said I don't really need the grip box "street" package for $813. Just get the PU bushing for the subframe and diff bushing for just over $100. Kick ass guys!

So lets see how much that 1 hour phone call just potentially saved me
Kmember + a-arms $920
grib box $813
rear coil overs + shocks $700
total savings $2,433
