My door and side moldings are sticky and breaking down. I am thinking of taking them off and leaving them off. Is it smooth metal behind the moldings or does it have groves and holes? Does anyone have pictures of the door with moldings off?

My car is a 92 LX. I was playing with idea of replacement with stock ones or maybe putting the cobra ones on unless there is fitment issues.

Behind the door is smoothed with a groove. The front fenders have holes behind the moldings. LMR has install videos for the moldings to show you what lays beneath.

Got to have them on the doors to complete the line that goes all the way around the car. The rub strip is molded into the front and rear bumpers so I see no way to remove the door moldings while retaining a clean look. The aftermarket replacements from LMR are easy to install and worth it IMO.

Here is my old 91 LX with no Moldings between the wheel wells. It doesn't look to hateful in my opinion.
