Hi guys I'm looking for opinions. I have a chance to buy a 4 inch cowl hood that is already painted Oxford White. I'm wondering if it will be overkill. I know I like 2 or 3 inch cowls, as well as Mach 1 types. I just don't want it to look like the hood version of a way too big spoiler. Also, If anybody has one and a pic that would be helpful. Thanks!

I think anything more than 3" just looks too big. 4" cowl hoods are typically for people that have a hopped up motor and need the extra clearance to clear an aftermarket intake setup.

If you're running a 4" cowl hood, then you'd better be running around with a caged interior and a set of slicks and skinnies on the car 24/7.....and had better be sporting some "real business" under the hood.

Otherwise, you're going to come off looking like a poser.

I think a smaller cowl hood would look a lot better on your car. Like others, I think a 4" cowl had better have something under it to back it up, otherwise it just looks like another flavor of rice....

Everthing mentioned by you guys is how I feel. I have decided to leave it stock for now. It is a street car with going to the track a few times per year. I think 4 inch will mess up the lines of the car. In the future I may do a mild cowl (2 inch or less) or maybe some type of functional hood scoop from a early fox mustang. I also always liked the 87 Thunderbird turbo coupe "nostrils" now that would be cool!

FWIW, I was seriously considering this hood for a while. Only 2", which it just enough to give you the look your after, but not scream "race me" at every light. I also like the fact that it made of aluminum....and hot heavy steel, or flimsy fibreglass. Whenever they start getting a stock of them again, I think I might look into one.

I like that myself. But not available for my 86...boooo

I believe stykthyn is talking to A5literman, meaning if he wants a cowl hood, he should convert his 4 eye Fox to the Aero 87-93 front end. Personally, I wouldn't do it. I like the 4 eyes....

Bob, I think a 1-2" cowl would look really good on your car, like the first one under 87-93's at this site:

I think the modest height cowl gives it a performance look but doesn't scream "I'm the baddest mofo on the block."
They also have cowl hoods for 4 eyes. We had a 2" cowl hood on our 84 vert that we got from a parts car. I think it gave it a decidedly aggressive look without really going over the top. It would've been nice if it were steel framed as I think A5literMan was eluding to. The fiberglass at the latch was ripped out when we got it, necessitating repair or hood pins. I repaired it and apparently it worked for a while. One had to close the hood carefully, not just slam it down or let gravity do the job. Apparently, the later owners of the car installed hood pins because they didn't understand that....

Wow i do like that! I checked out their website and it looks like they have high quality stuff and a good variety. I need to find out how much it will cost to get painted and installed. Im guessing $200-$300? Then i think about what go fast goodies i could buy with that money instead!
